On the subject of Pauls, I had a cool 1968 Les Paul Custom. I traded my ES335 for it because the 335's size made me look like a kid and just wasn't cool enough. Man, though that Paul was nice, the 335 would eat it alive, neck and tone-wise. Since I'm a David Gilmour fan,  I got rid of the Paul for $300 US (please, no wisecracks here) and went Fender. I swear, though they can be really homely guitars, a Telecaster will spoil you! Regards, Bill.

That Les is a damn fine guitar and so is the Telecaster.

My guitar is a pretty poo strat copy that I have tried to make half decent by fitting with EMG pick ups.  I think they were 3X the cost of my guitar but totally worth it!  :D

Some of those clones are pretty good axes. My first bass,30 some years ago was a Korean made Fender J-bass clone. The pickups had a murky sound, but it sure had a sweet lovely action.

My motto is listen and play with your ears and your hands, not your eyes. If a guitar feels good to you, and you like it, forget where it's made! EVERY guitar has at least one good song in it. I've got a great old Japanese Squier Strat with early 60's lipstick pickups that I wouldn't take a mint for. I've played the finish off the body and it's still on its first set of frets. It just fits me.

I agree- I had an old El Degas 12 string acoustic that sounded great for years.  Unfortunately the lesser quality of manufacture eventually caused the bridge to twist out of the body but I got close to twelve years out of it.

Not too bad for a "cheap" guitar.

Is it really hard to play a guitar?  I have picked one up but I think that it takes more skill than just plucking the strings to make noise. :)  My brother had one and he seemed to pick it up easily.  However, aside from being a great athlete his entire life he is good at damn near anything.  He was playing simple songs within about two weeks.  I cant even get it to make the sounds that I want it to make.

I found it really hard to learn, I gave up in the end as I felt it was a waste of my time, but some people have a lot of natural talent where music is concerned :)

You might find it easier now your older though :)

I found initial learning wasn't too bad.  Getting from a starter to OK isn't to bad, but I found getting from OK to good to be really difficult.

Don't know how this became a thread about guitars, but I came so close to buying one of these a couple of years ago http://www.prsguitars.com/tremontise/index.html but the car broke so I had to fix that instead .  I have always wanted a PRS.

I usually find PRS's a bit too fancy for my liking, but that one is beautiful!

Some are a bit OTT but that one is a poor mans PRS, hence how at one point I could afford one. :)

LOL :D

My problems boiled down to a very simple fault that loads of mechanics missed- a split vacuum tube.  I spent loads of money on it before I found it and repaired it myself.  Then along came the kiddlewinks so bye bye Golf.

CQC-7:

You asked if playing guitar is difficult (if I remember this weaving thread correctly). I've always thought the biggest obstacles to overcome are the frustration over getting your fingers to go where you want them to, and from trying to perform music beyond your current ability. Most players try so hard that they get burned out. I got most of my jumps while watching television or just playing along with recorded music.

I used to like that band lots, but I don't ever see them much on American TV. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places, but MTV/VH1 don't seem to feature them much. I thought perhaps they'd folded.

No there still going (for how much longer I don't know though) unless they bring out a new album, there unlikely to figure much on MTV and other channels :( :(

Fortunately about 60% of all the songs they've done are on youtube :) :) :)
