Username, where did it come from?
on: December 30, 2007, 01:33:35 PM
Some of you have some "wild and crazy" usernames. I'm interested in how you got them.

Mine is pretty lame and not at all original. When I was younger Kreskin "The World's Foremost Mentalist" was big for some reason so when someone asked you a question that you couldn't possibly know the answer to we would say "Who am I, Kreskin?" Yeah I know, stupid, but we were only kids! :)

The 13 came about because any site I tried to join already had a Kreskin (see, not original) so I tack on 13 because it's my favorite number. I wore 13 when I played Little League baseball but more importantly I was born on Friday the 13th! >:D >:D

My alternate username is dungbeetle13,(once again, not original)

I'm sure someone has some GOOD stories, let's here 'em!

Mine's boring. The first forum I joined was a British wildlife site, so I just used the name of my favourite bird (not my pic);

Then I kept the name for everywhere else so I don't have to think too hard. Think long, think wrong! :D

It's better than mine. That's a cool looking bird, it reminds me of the American Goldfinch (same family). I had backyard feeders for years and one year about 15-20 of them showed up and hung around for a few days. Never had them before or since. ???

One of the first sites I ever registered at was a chat room called The Globe.  I don't think it's around anymore, but being a security guy I chose the name Defender since that's what I did.  I use it on every site, but be warned, there are Defenders on many sites that I don't belong to, so don't be surprised if you send "me" a PM on another forum and "I" don't know who the hell you are!

And, with a name like "Grant Lamontagne," you can understand why I go by "Def!"

56 is my birth year, the Bison comes from two things. When I first entered EMSand full beards were still OK, I started at my station with shoulder length hair, and a full beard, causing my station chief to comment that I looked a buffalo, and that morphed into things like Buffy, and Bison.I think the fact I snored like like a buffalo in heat, had something to do with it too. ???

Mine is boring as well.  My name is Ben and for some strange reason my friends at school called me Benner.  When it came to registering on my first forum Ben had been taken as a username so I tried Benner which was accepted.  I have then Just stuck with this.

I chose my name after the "original" tactical knife.  My wife bought one for me as a wedding gift and I just use that name because I like that knife and I usually carry it with me.

Mine is very simple, edap617. My full name is Eddie Apuhin. I just use the first two letters of my first name and the first two letters of my surname. The suffix 617 my birthday - June 17.

I have a certain fondness for the best multi-tool on the face of the Earth. The sticky gray kind that comes on a roll. And as for the whole "Is it duck or duct tape?" debate I will post this link.

Someone once told me that I reminded them of Captain Flasheart from Blackadder (ie a loud mouthed opinionated prat)  I took it as a compliment hence my nickname...its easier than typing Captain Flasheart all the time.

Take care,

I saw a band last night called Force-fed Anthrax >:D They would have looked a bit more hardcore if they weren't all 16 and chaperoned by a couple of mums passing round chocolates :D

I'm not much of a football fan these days but I always like to see the Vikings and the Chiefs do well. This stems from when I was a kid living in Japan and had one of those football games that was made of metal with plastic players and a felt football. When you turned the thing on it vibrated and all the players pretty much just headed for the sidelines. What great fun. ::)  Anyway the Vikings and Chiefs were two of the teams on the games. For some reason I had more than one of what may have been one of the worst toys ever. Funny how certain things stick with you.
