LM Tool Looseness?
on: December 07, 2007, 01:31:46 AM
How many of you guys truly like a loose tool. I like my tools broken in but not too loose and not too tight. My New Wave is starting to get loose but its still in decent. The new production LM's I think do not get as loose as like the pst or supertool! My old supertool was like a butterflyknife!

My supertool is about as loose as they come and I like it like that.  :)

I reall do not like loose tools.  Broken in tools are fine but rattleing tools are not my cup of tea.

I too am more of a tighty than a loosey  :-\

Butterflying is a nice effect of a loose tool, but I can't stand wiggly pliers.
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I have a pretty wide range of acceptance (IMO) in terms of looseness vs tightness of tools. But, being the silly perfectionist that I am, what drives me up a wall is when one side is tight and the other is loose or things like that... ::)

I'd rather have a loose tool than a tight one.  Most of the time I need my pliers, my other hand is holding something, so flipping the pliers open really helps.

Me, too.  I liked my old Leatherman SuperTool better after it loosened up and became easier to open.

I don't mind either way as long as the handles are tight when the pliers are deployed. BTW what is a rave?

BTW what is a rave?

usually an extensive rambling post giving the poster a chance to vent and get something off his chest. may or may not be applicable to one or more or any topics heretofore previouly discussed on the forum.

quite often followed by "whaaaa whaaaa", a time out, and some milk and cookies.

Haha! I see that LM has done a ninja spell check and what was rave is now wave :P I always thought LM liked a surge or a core for an EDC, so I thought maybe a rave was a new tactical wave with a built in glass punch or something....

Be careful, you're going to give the Leatherman Tool Group marketing folks some ideas  :P ;)

I would not mind seeing a tactical leatherman with a glass breaker.  I would be willing to bet that they would sell like hotcakes

I like loose tools, but..... ok, my Blast has loosened up pretty good, but now on the one side, the saw literally FALLS out as soon as that handle is opened  I know someone had that problem with a Core and PST II (Def maybe?).  THAT I DON'T like.  It makes me feel unsafe, like I'm going to jab myself with the saw if I am not careful.

I like the tightness of my LM Supertool, Kick and Wave. Loose tools may rattle and don't have the feel of precision.

Anything loose is not good.

LMs (especially the older tools) really have a tendency to become loose due to the design...  I have owned a PST, Kick, and SuperTool, and all of them got loose after just a few months of use.  My Supertool is so loose now that when you flick the handles open like a balisong, the tools fold-out on their own as well.  The handles also wobble and rattle when working with the screwdrivers.

=)

My supertool was very loose when it arrived.  I gave it a little tighten with 2 other multitools but did leave it quite loose as I like it like that.

You can heat up the bolts on the old Leatherman tools to loosen the thread locker compound and then adjust the bolts for whatever blade looseness or tightness you want.

I wouldn't apply heat to the newer Leatherman tools with plastic handle liners.

Ugh. What is with those plastic handle liners and why did they put them on the core?

I did, and it's all good.  Problem is, it'll probably happen again, I guess.  I don;t like that either.

My 1st Leatherman(the original PST) got real loose but admittedly I used it hard. I was mechanized Infantry and working around those Bradley's wore it out quickly. And although it was loose, I was still impressed with how it fared considering all the use(and abuse) I put it through. None of my tools since have gotten that loose but then again none of them have had to work that hard either.
