Depends on your country or where you send it in, too.

I know the UK warranty agents don’t have any P2 or P4 exchange models left, and repair isn’t an option here.

Disappointingly, there is no option to pay the difference to upgrade to an Arc, so any Free series tools will be swapped for older models.

Older designs, not actually old or used tools.

In my opinion, a Wave+ is not a fair substitute for a P4..

I just picked up a P2 during Prime day. I was a skeptic on the Free series initially,  but honestly I really like the P4 and it has seen regular pocket carry over the last year since acquiring it (during last year's Prime day). I have had zero issues with metal shavings or anything that are brought up as concerns clogging my tool or causing issues. Also,  the tool set has worked for my uses and even though the file is small,  it has worked when needed. I have found the I prefer the longer drivers on my MT verses the shorter interchangeable bits. I have too many recessed screws to deal with and the bit driver on my Surge or Charge or ARC just don't work. I did buy, and highly recommend, the little bit driver attachment (available after market) to allow 1/4 bits and it fits on the 2D Phillips driver with a magnet. Gives me that functionality of other bits if needed.

I picked up the P2 for a slightly lighter carry to see how it goes. I don't need a saw every day and I do think the combo blade will work well. Time will tell.

At any rate,  if anyone is on the fence or considering this platform,  I have become a fan and recommend it. While I still think the Surge of Supertool 300 are key for bigger jobs,  the P4 and possibly P2, have become my go-to Leatherman offerings. YMMV.

It really pretty good. Not ultra strong retention, but adequate and it stays on the driver. Not a friction fit at all.

I think your evaluation is absolutely spot on.

The P2 and P4 are not the best tool in every single situation, but they’re great all-rounders.

Small file? Great for using in tight spaces.

Lots of different flatheads? Perfect for commonly found recessed screws.

The one handed access to every single tool and implement without juggling the tool or bracing it against your leg or body is so useful, a huge advantage in certain circumstances over older designs.

Not the first time I’ve said it, but I’d love to see Leatherman expand the Free range with Mini or Juice sized models, a Surge sized tool, and one with a UK legal outside slipjoint blade.

Well I added another P4 to the tool collection. With it now being discontinued, I figured I had better find one. This one is a new to me one. Did a quick disinfectant and good cleaning, then overall inspection and the tool looks to have never been used. Then lubed it up.

I have been carrying it for about a week, then decided to mod it. I have been slowly hoarding Arc pieces since the challenge Powernoodle and I did a while back. So I swapped some of the larger tools around and swapped the Arc file for the serrated blade. I then moved the smaller tools around and added in the Arc awl and large bit holder. It is now mostly set up the way I want it. I did keep the large flat driver/ pry tool/ package opener although I have mixed feelings on that tool.

So this one is my third P4. Sold the first one. Then decided to give it another go and it stuck around. Figured I had better get a backup before they were gone and then decided to see how a modded one would work out.

Hey Poncho, Thanks for the like. I know the mod is not for everyone, but it fixes some of the gripes I have with the P4. I use the file quite a bit, so that is the main thing I wanted to changed. Adding the file made the neutered P4 file redundant so added the Arc awl. I then looked for a Zapwizard bit holder and they are no longer available so I searched the bay and found the Arc bit driver. That meant shifting around some of the smaller tools resulting in the load out I have now.

It definitely looks more what they should have been from the start :salute: a mod that doesn't look like one but instead looks like a factory config :dd: :like: :like:
