Who knows really. I think I rather see them improve it somewhat before releasing a BO version of the tool. At around €200 which is $220 I want to see s30 blade steel andl bit holder at least.

I wonder how many more will get excited when reading the title of this thread, only to click on it, read it, and get disappointed.

FWIW I doubt the Free series will ever come in BO, simply because of the intended target audience...
Cheers!

Yes but to keep it short and simple. I'll refer back to DT's intended target audience. The intended target audience is not the military, police or other tactical types. Therefore I dont think Leatherman will ever make a BO Free. But who know sometimes they do off the wall things.    :D

i Recently saw that the P4 was being carried at a military PX, so BO versions are possible. I would guess that an array of different colors is more probable though. I would also expect to see the series expanded in the next year or two.

That would surprise me. Military users or their acquisitions departments have more sturdy options from LM to choose from, at markedly lower prices. As an example, I'm curious whether the military would accept elastomer-bearinged pliers in battlefield circumstances.

Not that I wouldn't like one :D - I'm just not holding my breath

There is a big difference from what is issued and what is sold at the PX.

Sorry, I overlooked the PX bit. True, but would that generate sufficient revenue for LM to justify its own variant?
Cheers!

Good price. Great tool. Don’t believe the claims of the Free tools being weak. They are tough.

The US military procurement system is interesting. Not only does each service pick their own gear but in many cases each battalion/regiment or other unit picks their gear based on the specific mission. This is especially true with personal gear.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some unit procurement officers have purchased the Free series. Microprocurements don’t go through the same process as a full blown procurement worth millions of dollars.

Leatherman has more or less said on Instagram that will be releasing a new Free variant at Shot Show and that black oxide was coming. I just hope they have a variant with a bit driver although Zap Wizards mod does work well.

While these PX's vary somewhat, here is a real nice video of the field gear, knives, etc, currently being sold at an Army Clothing Store.

WHAT A BIG DECEPTION IS THE P2.
After only 2 days of use, I tried to cut a hanger to use it for a project the pliers got stucked.
You can´t move the pliers now on the P2.
I'm returning this today.
Not worth it at all
I hope Leatherman reads this because the P2 is garbage!
Will stick with my Spirit that have served me fine since the first day!
Enjoy!

Hello everyone.

It's an old topic, but I'm interested in whether it's possible to color the scales of the P4. Has anyone tried this yet? I love my black multitolls and would like to have my P4 in black or dark gray as well. Does this make sense with simple spray paint from the hardware store?

Welcome to :MTO:

Spray paint will look fine but won't hold up well at all :salute: meaning it will come off pretty quickly and easily :ahhh

You can take the scales off and use certain acids or types of pastes that will black oxide them and give those a black oxide coating but I have never did this myself :ahhh

Adam5 and Legend have both black oxide a few things and may be able to give you some tips better than me
