LM combo sheath
on: January 04, 2008, 09:19:13 PM
I'm looking at getting either a New Wave or a Surge in black oxide to replace my old Wave and augment my multitool assortment.  Anyone know if there is a nylon combo sheath that can hold at least a portion of the bit kit along with your tool of choice as well?  Pls let me know when you get a chance.  TIA!

Cheers!

The surge nylon sheath and the waves has a elastic pocket in the back of the seath for the bit kit. Unfortunatly with only 1 of the bit kit holders in it it is still a very tight fit.

Well, if you want the black oxide one you will probably get a MOLLE sheath wit it. That sheath can be worn horizontally on belt. Off Leatherman you can be sheaths normal sheaths for which model you bought..

I was able to cram all kinds of stuff into my nylon Charge sheath and the tool went in and out fine. I was trying to gauge how much I could get in there to help me decide on my new EDC set-up. Now the leather sheath I can't even get the tool into by itself. It's seriously so tight it's useless.

It stretches with use. You just have to break it in a bit.

Yeah, that's what I'm assuming but it's kinda hard to convince myself to break it in when I can't get anything into or out of it. Right now I have my wave, 2 bit cards, a pen and some nail clippers residing in it with the hopes it will start to stretch a bit while I use the nylon. IO can't get the Wave out as is and it barely closes but it should hopefully stretch. I had all that in the nylon last night and it was tight but usable. I only don't like the nylon since the tool tends to get caught on either the nylon or the elastic coming out. I also don't like that loud ass noise velcro makes when you open it. I'm hoping I'll be able to use the leather for my EDC if I can get it to stretch. Though I'm an oddity in that I prefer the way nylon looks over leather, but leather tends to be better in use which is more important in the end.

Good point there! All of the new black oxide models from Leatherman seem to come with their "Molle" sheath.

Plus:
The Molle looks nice and "tactical" on your belt 8)
Vertical or Horizontal carry not a problem
Proper amount of room inside, no issues with tight fitting tools

Minus:
Huge flap, with a massive amount of velcro on it.

Those molle sheaths look sharp. I really got to order a couple of them to replace some that are not holding up so well. Can you order them seperate?

If they fit all 4 and 4.5 inch tools basically one sheath can cover a majority of all the leatherman tools.

My pic doesn't show it, but there's a little elastic compartmnt at the back to hold the bit kits, just like the regular sheaths have.

I'm not a big fan of sheaths, but I like the MOLLE sheath for this reason. It holds the Core, Surge, and Supertool really good as well as the SwissTool.

Nice backdrop behind the sheath.  Are you going to the show?  I'm hoping to go, but it's not looking promising right now.  I'm hoping to get a real cheap airline deal for the last day or two of the show.
