I always wondered why my indoor macro pictures had odd tints to them, like this:
As it turns out, my camera has an automatic self "white balance" adjustment, based on light wavelength. So when I would take photos on my work bench, it would sense florescent lighting, but because my task lamp has a good CFL in it, the color of the light appears to the eye as incandescent soft white, causing the stainless steel to "brown" slightly. If I override the white balance it brings out the true color.
