I just traded off my red evo 18. I am going to try replace it with a evo s16 .

I like the lock.
The lock is in the way a little bit but if you want the lock I think it is worth it.

Attention Wenger collectors!
I listed for sale on EDC Source all of my Wenger duplicates (around 15) plus few Victorinox.
All the Wenger's are discontinued, and some are very difficult to find.
You can see a gallery of all my duplicates here

Some very nice SAKs for sale.  http://www.edcsource.com/101037,owner_id,other_items

This one isn't the smallest one with a magnifying glass if you're thinking the number of layers.

There's the still unidentified Junior model I need to add to the wiki.

I've been calling this one Securité 17 but maybe I'm wrong here on the naming. It was what I found when searching for it a few years ago.

Mine doesn't have a locking bottle opener. Is it the same on yours?

Yes, you are correct.
Sometimes I just forget to include the Junior series... because of their blade they just don't seem to fit in the same category as other models.
The correct wording could be "This one is the smallest Wenger, with a real blade, equipped with a magnifying glass"... :D

The duplicate I have for sale does have the locking bottle opener.
However the blade is the old style, marked only on one side.
Will check with the other example I have.
As for the name, I believe the Security 17 or Securité 17 name could had been added later, along with the S 17 designation.
I will check with the catalogs I have, but the name you are referring to could be for the newest versions, with the WENGER name embossed on the scale.
Not sure, however.

Mine's definitely an old one, '84 I think. The tang is stamped one side only with Wenger (crossbow)/Delémont/Switzerland/Stainless, and the nail file is facing inside. The reamer and corkscrew backsprings aren't flush, but the scissors and saw backsprings are. I got the name from an old SOSAK article.

When I got my evogrip s18 I said the lock was really uncomfortable and in the way. I changed my mind now. I just had to adjust to holding the knife where my fingers do not touch the lock. I am still really glad I got the locking version.

OK, I did some research, and the results are as follows:
The knife we are talking about has two different catalog numbers:
Older version has catalog 1 17 53 an no name (first attachment from the 1995 catalog).
Newer version has a different catalog number (1 17 59) and name Security 17 (second attachment from a 2006 catalog).
So considering that my model has the older key chain, I think that the name Security 17 could apply only to the newer version, and listing my duplicate on EDC Source as "Forester variation" was probably correct.
I will edit the wiki's "Forester" page, to reflect the newer name and catalog.
So thanks enki for pointing this out, as I didn't notice this difference before.

That would mean there are at least 3 variations of the locking Forester as mine is a pre 1984. As per info provided by North Man in the Wenger Time Windows and much text thread

Quote
1979 Packlock, worlds first SAK with locking blade

1980 Precise mention new model with Packlock and now 6 models available with this feature.

1981 Viceroy model and interlock system or locking is mentioned, may be older

1982 Earliest Patent application I have found on flat screwdriver with cap opener and the push locking system, inventor Theubet Michel, so 1984 may be correct.

So as the locking bottle opener was introduced around 1983-84 and mine doesn't have it, it must be an earlier model than the one in the 1995 catalog. North Man said in another thread that it would probably be 1984. Not sure if it would have a different model number or what it is as I bought it used without box from Reinier a few years ago.

EDIT:
I just found the paypal info and he named it Wenger Security 17 in his auction.

Also, Wenger Security 17 is the name North Man uses for his Scouts model number 1 17 91 and also refers to the same SOSAK page I mentioned earlier.

Enki:
I don't think that there was an additional third variation, but the tools just changed a little.
Thanks for the link you provided!
North Man, very correctly, does not call the scout example he has as Security 17, but probably says that the knife shown in that SOSAK article looks almost the same (i.e. same tools configuration, minus the scout emblem on the front scale and the blade etchings).
If you look at the italian brochure I posted a while back
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-browse_image.php?galleryId=70&sort_mode=name_asc&imageId=2900&scalesize=o
you can see that the model 1 17 53 was called "Sicurezza", which translates to "Security", but the same name was used for other models as well.
So my opinion is that Wenger later just used the word "Security" with part of the catalog number "17", as did with many other models.
In other words: "Security 17" is just the new name given by Wenger to an old model.

Not really a SAK, but just received this today with the very kind help by Reinier
It is a display advertisement in german, showing an old "Champ".
Probably from the 80's
Funny thing is that the knife shown is "embossed" on the panel. You can see this on the second picture attached.
The first picture has a 557 on the top to give an idea of the panel size.

I love my Wenger soldat, so far its the only sak that's withstood the test of time for me.  04 blade stamp and tip's been rounded through years of use, bail is missing...sucks they aren't available anymore.  Oh well, glad I have a duplicate in storage :)

Very nice!
Some months ago a seller on ebay was offering a bunch of them and I bought one too.
The metal scales are beautiful!
I think I also have a cigar Wenger with the "Zino" markings on the tools, but standard black scales.
Will try to post a picture.

Also, I couldn't find mine in the SAK Wiki  Anyone know why?

Nope, I have the exact same model as yours.
I am at work now and will check later.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but I remember the scales to be made in metal.
Will check later.
This model is not yet on the wiki.
Unfortunately I don't have much informations about it. Perhaps other members know more

OK, just checked.
You were right and I was wrong, sorry.
Yes, unfortunately the scales of the silver model are made of plastic...to be sure I compared the weight of the two models I have (which have the same tool's configuration) and it is exactly the same.
I took the opportunity to save some pictures for the wiki.
The model with the black scales has a different logo on the main blade (it adds the words "Scepter Series") and is missing the Zino emblem on the back scale (however, this could be just worn off, as my model is used)

I got the 7th Ann. MTO Wenger piece in yesterday. It's actually a really nice tool. I'll get some photos up of it over the weekend.

Could someone with some "internet skills" help me with a search?
Some months ago I bought the Rangerwood 161 (100 years edition) directly from the Swiss Alpine Club.
I'm quite sure I saw on the shop web page a note saying that it was a limited edition of 200 (if I remember correctly) pieces.
Unfortuantely I forgot to save a picture of the web page.
This knife seems out of stock now.
I think this was the direct link to the Rangerwood page
http://www.sac-cas.ch/fr/shop.html?q=aHR0cDovL2ZqMTA1cDA0LnRyZW5kaG9zdGluZy5jaC9pbmRleC5waHAvY2x1Yi1zaG9wL3Jhbmdlci1tZXNzZXItbWl0LXNhYy1sb2dvLmh0bWw%3D

Using Google cache I was able to find this page
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:www.sac-cas.ch/de/shop.html?
but I can't go further.
I'm quite sure the Ranger was listed on the "Club-Shop" menu on the left.
Could someone try to get the cache page of the Rangerwood, as I would need to have the production number confirmed?
