An wenger old boy I found today ... the build quality is stunning the main blade is 4mm thick at the tang

The point has gone but I can sort that

The patina is perfect :)

Big an small blade are stamped

The third blade is a nail file which you will need after trying to open this thing as for closing it snaps shut like a rat trap :) but that will be the always popular two backsprings are better than one option :)

It may not look much but it is a stunner :)

You really do find some old treasures. I'd leave this one as it is, as you say 'the patina is perfect' :tu:

Good work on the point :tu:
With regards to the Evowood collection, Pear is a much stronger wood than Walnut, much closer grain.

I saw that the wiki page was recently edited with the Pear wood model
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=EVO+14
But are the informations about the French market confirmed?
I also think that 2011 was the year of production, not the unit number.
I'm not criticizing, just asking because I couldn't find more informations apart from the entry in the Herbertz catalog.

Nice collection.
I don't understand if the two Walnut EvoWoods were stock knives, or if you did something to them

I think wenger stopped staining the knives to cut costs. Early sales pitches claimed that each knife was individually stained to give unique character.  The 10 is older and has been used a lot, darkening slightly.  The finish on the s557 is effectively raw wood, the 10 was a lot smoother due to the staining process.

The writing is not that clear; I think Marduk was try to say that in 2011 (i.e. 'the 2011 models') were made for the French market, and then later made available in Germany.  He was not saying 2011 was the unit number of the knife.  We'll let him clarify, and fix up the page.  It would be interesting to know where he got the information on the French market, but it makes sense so I'm inclined to think it's good info at this point.

As far as I know yes, only the 14.

I think I probably understood (or I'm just guessing) where the "French market" information was taken from.
The only website listing the knife is this
http://www.proidee.fr/concept-store/rubriques-categories/outils-securite/couteau-suisse-evo-wood
Where you can read "Exclusivement chez Pro-Idée".
However, the Pro-Idée company is german, not french, as shown here in the "Identité" section
http://www.proidee.fr/a-propos-de-pro-idee?HI=abbinder
I really hope that Marduk will clarify this, as I have the feeling this knife was a german exclusive.

As noted, 2011 meant year, not model. I corrected the wiki. Sorry for my sloppy entry.

As for the French market, I have seen several boxes w/the EvoWood 14 Pear wood. They all desribe the model as "Poirier" on the lid. This appears on boxes sold on German internet sites. Since Germany is the next largest market outside North America, why did Wenger print the knife's description in French, not German unless it was originally intended for France.

Hey, it is not a problem and I'm really glad you are helping with the wiki!
As for the label in french, I personally think it is not indicative of a specific market.
Wenger did it many times, for knives that were not specifically sold in France.
Like on the 557 Exclusivities, listed in french on the label (Exclusivités)
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-browse_image.php?galleryId=12&sort_mode=imageId_desc&imageId=2843&scalesize=o
or with the SAC knives, listed in french as CAS (Club Alpine Suisse), not as SAC
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=32456.msg813277#msg813277
I think it has more to do with the Jura french speaking Canton.

Carlo--You may very well be right. The wiki is not a place for assumptions, but for facts. And a few examples are not enough to draw definitive conclusions. I have amended the wiki. Does anyone know anything else about the this model? Has anyone seen it on any national markets other than France & Germany? Why are the boxes dated 2011? Anyone seen any dated later or earlier? We would like to hear from as many as possible of those who have purchases these Pear wood models.

Good to see there will be a Delémont version, best clipper I ever had. It lives on my travel bag and a little beat up, but some love there for sure. Mine is AT version so I always have it.  :tu:

Something for the Wenger series in the wiki:

Savana

The Savanas are one of Wenger's Star series of premium knives. There are three knives in the series, and they feature horn handles. The different models don't have names, only numbers.

1 92 80 (Esquire)
1 92 81 (Commander)
1 92 82 (Traveler)
