Repost from 'Latest SAK'

Just picked up a very odd Wenger. Its an old Tahara Gentleman's knife with tooled stainless handles, in a unique size I've never seen. Its 82mm long, about three mm less than a standard sized 85mm like the Pheasant, and with smaller blades. On the other hand its noticeably larger than the normal 75mm Tahara Gentleman's knives, with longer blades and a more oval shape.

Cool Swissgrip, and the swords in the background look cool too. Is that a bokken on top? Do you use it in practice?

I saw Central Valley wholesale listed a bunch of Wenger knives recently.    Are these the New releases from Victorinox or old stock?   I dont know much about Wenger but like I said  CVW seems to have a bunch of different kinds.

I thought this Orange camo one was interesting:

Cool Swissgrip, and the swords in the background look cool too. Is that a bokken on top? Do you use it in practice?

The sword just behind the Swissgrip, from top go down is:

1. Tang Dao
Tang Dao is "The ancestor of Japanese Katana".
During Tang dynasty (AD 618~907), Japanese visited China , and learn lot of Chinese cultural things, bring them back and teach their residents.

Tang Dao is one of the weapons.
Tang Dao must forging for 30 times, this kind of forging technology is too difficult for Japanese.

Japanese never ever make the same quality sword as Tand dao.

In Japan, they do keep few Tang Dao in their most important museum, to remember the Best Dao (sword) from China, and it is the ancestor of Japanese Katana.

by the way, now in this age, no one can make the 30 times folding Tang Dao any more. The skill of making Tang dao has been lost ! SO bad !

(My Tang Dao behind the Swiss grip is made by damascus steel, fold about 12 times. The color on the blade is deep in the chemical before, not just paint.)

2. Octahedral Han sword
This sword is bast Straight sword in Chinese sword history.
The best one in China is worth $300,000 USD The Blade is made by meteor iron. It can cut through brick without scratch the blade.
(My is not that expensive, my Octahedral Han sword is just made by regular damascus steel, and folding about 12 times.

3. A Japanese Katana
Made by damascus steel too.

I don't use any of them for practice, I only use the practice type sword for my form and skill practice.
Safety first !

I like Wenger.If they make a tool I that like,I'll buy it.

I still own a "tool chest" from the early 90's,a hunting model with a locking blade, gut hook, saw and several other tools. There is one that I own that's the equivalent of the V-nox champ and another with a locking main blade.

I do like that Wenger metal series!

Here are two of the Wengers I recently acquired: a PocketGrip and a RangerGrip 90. Each one has its strengths and drawbacks, but overall I like them a lot. They will only be carried on their factory sheaths; the PocketGrip when doing weekend chores inside the house, and the RangerGrip 90 outside the house (landscape), and whenever I venture out into the woods.
:climber:
Of course, always in the company of a Victorinox SwissChamp (as I have carried one of these daily for the last 20 years).  :D

Cant's see all the tools of your knives.
However, judging from the pictures, I would say:
Ranger on top, assuming it has a phillips driver, is Sabla 08.
Model on the left, assuming it has phillips driver, is a Monarch.
Model in the middle, Toolchest plus.
Model on the right, assuming it has corkscrew, is a Nomad.

No problems, I hope I was correct on id your knives.

----------

This is an interesting Wenger I recently bought.
I would call it a sub-variant of model 1.92.73 (see the Survivor wiki page for more informations).
I only saw this knife listed on japan websites (but with the same catalog number as the standard scale model) and when I made an order from Japan some time ago, I bought one.
Unfortunately, what I received was a standard 1.92.73, without the cyclist imprint.
So I thought that the picture of this knife with the cyclist imprint was just a catalog error.
This was untill I found this knife.
Now you may ask: what if the front scale was later replaced, adding the one from the more common cyclist model?
The last attached picture answer this question: as far as I know, the knife here is the only one to feature a front scale with the cyclist imprint and the provision for the tweezers.
In short my personal conclusion is (unless someone had different informations): the knife here was  a "variation" of model 1.92.73 made only for the Japan market.

What is that gray tool that looks to be a tube with a tapered end and a cut in its shaft?

Here is an additional unusual one.
I believe this is the "Pathfinder II" (16926).
Note the old 5-turns corkscrew and the missing patent marking on the cap lifter.
A more recent one (with the "4 turns" corkscrew) just sold on ebay.com today.

I believe you are correct and it is made for that market. If it got the "liner attaching" scale then you can try to see and compare with other ones. If somebody did this private then it would show.

Hi
Very nice knife! I wonder if this is a 1979 SAK?

Hey North Man!
I think the same.
This knife is also shown on page 9 of the 1982 catalog (on top).
The image there seems to have the more recent corkscrew.
However, in the same catalog there are also pictures of knives with the older type.
Do you have an idea about when the change in the corkscrew did happen?

No, I don't think it was modded.
They would had to cut the space for the tweezers on the liner, and on my example I am 100% sure it was factory made.
Here is an example of one of the stock catalog picture I was talking about

It is difficult to 100% on the corkscrew change but i would say late 70s. On knives from 1977 the extra loop was on. Maybe it started in 1978 and by 1981 most of the knives got the New Style corkscrew.
