For  me, it's got probably pretty close to perfect combo of tools coupled in a nice carrying package.  The yellow scales really look sharp in person, and the Evogrip finish really does do what it claims, providing a solid grip on the scales.  About the only downside I've found  on it is the main blade lock tends to get in the way of getting the scissors out, but once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze.

Although I prefer the S17 (I prefer a corkscrew over back philips) The 18 8or better even the S18) sports that nice yellow scales. The toolset resembles roughle the one of the vic huntsman. (except for the small blade that is and the cs/back phil. ofc).

I personally love the Wenger Lock blade/S models a lot.

Thanks for the replies guys. I just received an EVO 17 in the mail today from evilbay. For $12 I can't complain. Haven't had much time to play with it yet as it's getting a good soak. I did notice the lock makes it a bit difficult to get to the scissors. What wasn't shown in the pics was a couple good chips on the toothpick/tweezers end. Sellers pic.

The lock definately makes it trickier to open the scissors, compared to the non-lock version.
It doesn't make it impossible though and with a bit of getting used to it, it does not matter at all anymore.

Yes, that's my experience too. (Wenger S17)

BTW This one has a corkscrew. It is about 15 years old and has had lots of carry. But there's hardly a ding to be seen! Did I find a difference between Victorinox and Wenger, that was hitherto unknown? Please check!

PS Dings are explained in sergemaster's "My Case Against The Corkscrew..." (http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,69710.0.html)

So glad to see this thread still going strong.

I absolutely adore Wenger. Their innovation and guts to bring radical ideas and designs to a somewhat stale market has left a huge hole. Their disappearance which I very much doubt we will ever see the likes of again is nothing short of tragic.

An amazing era, but which sadly we didn't fully realise at the time.

Hindsight is a wonderful gift....

I only have one Wenger, an Outdoorsman I bought @ LL Bean in the early 90's .
It gets it's turn in the rotation like most of my knives.
Been thinking about a new Evo , just haven't decided which one.

:like:  :like: Great looking Outdoorsman 7.5!  As far as Evo's go, it's hard to beat either a 17 or 18.  Great all around tool selection!

Are kitchen knives SAKs?
Not really, I know... but I love these Wengers. They're so sharp you can cut yourself just by looking at them the wrong way.

My first SAK was a Wenger I bought from K-Mart back in 1985. I believe it was the Commander, or something very similar to it. I loved it and had it for a couple of years. The blade tip broke when I was, stupidly, prying something with it, but overall I enjoyed it. I bought another Wenger from K-Mart a couple of years later (around 1987), and have no idea what became of it. Like I said, I liked them. Then, around 1989, my brother gave me a Spartan by Victorinox. I felt that it was a better knife. The springs were stronger, and it felt more solid to me overall. I've never looked back. I still have one Wenger (EVO 63) just to have one in my collection, but I prefer Vics in terms of quality and performance.

Although I don't collect as much these days, partly because not much takes my eye.....
However, this certainly took my eye and finally arrived yesterday having spent the past 2 months constantly asking the seller to post as the 360 mile round trip to collect   was simply not an option.

Original Wenger counter display. I tried the Giant for size...

Amazing picture in this thread! I like also wenger,  I fell them better because I have a little hand, so for me that size is more comfortable.

Here my Wenger Pathfinder. Is has signed CIBA logo on one side.

Now I don't like very much his ruler/compas, I may prefer another tool, but   it's also a characteristics of this knife. When I bought it, maps can be consulted with it.
Anyway, I never used it for what is made of :D

P.s. Sorry for all grammatical mistakes  :dwts:
