Hmm, only info I found was a thread here with someone who had the same issue with this model, I would avoid it if anyone had interest in getting one. From what I can find on vics site, I think they will warranty Wengers, but I would assume they would send a replacement, I'm guessing some evo model with similar toolset.

I am carrying Wengers more and more.  I have a PTC on ball chain tho I also carry it in my 5th pocket of jeans.  These 3 are carried a lot.  My Cyclist is carried everyday for work.

Is there a minigrip club? I’m thinking I’d like to carry mine occasionally and want some motivation and of course pics!

Charles.

Its been great.  The wrench has come into play which was nice.  While not the widest it worked great on the smaller of bolts.  Over all its a very nice SAK.  The inline phillips is terrific and I've always like the belly on Wengers blades.

What’s the max metric bolt size that wrench can handle?

Charles.

Don’t have bolts to test, but I’d say around 15mm with the pliers shifted to the open position and maybe 7mm on the wrench.

Hrm. I’ve avoided models with the Wrench because i thought it probably wasn’t big enough for even an 8mm bolt head. That’s the smallest size on a motorcycle, usually. But if it could actually do 8mm I might pick one up. Pic shows that as a definite maybe...

AND a bit of work with a file could perhaps make it work with 10mm bolts. So I may pick one up for mod fodder after all.

Charles.

i just found and bought a next generation aluminum wenger, with the crossbow shield.  here they are side by side, and this proves that they continued this model into the next variation.  noteworthy that the cross bow shield example has a cap lifter (the original does not), and the outer aluminum scales are approx twice the thickness of the original, and it has a nickel silver spacer instead of the aluminum one in the original

Have you been able to date some of them sakwakky? I’m no expert on vintage Wengers, but some look really old.

yes the Wenger officer knives (one aluminum and two with black scales) date from 1910 to the mid 20s.  we know this from their tang stamp and the lack of a cap lifter in the screwdriver.

the black soldier knives are all type 1890 so they are all from 1890 to 1901

the Rothlisberger soldier knife is a 57 (they only made them in either 56 or 57 and it is stamped on the reverse of the tang)

the red Erinox officer knife by Rothlisberger is from the mid 50s, and the crossbow shield Victorinox appears in the 1942 Catalogue.  It is an interesting knife because if you think about Switzerland in 1942 it was completely surrounded by the Germans and many Jewish refugees took shelter inside Switzerland during the war.  This might explain why this was the only time that Victorinox thought there was a market for a version of their officer knife which did NOT have a cross on it.  Complete speculation, and of course Wenger used a crossbow shield on and off through many different designs, but this was the only time that Victorinox did so
