Wengers are great, I have a small pile of them in various sizes that I rotate. The blade shape, toothpick/tweezer location, serrated scissors, and locking screwdriver design are what keep them in my pockets most days.

I accidentally picked up a Wenger on an auction a while ago and I really liked the quirky can opener so much that I now keep an eye out for them but I don't actively pursue them. I've managed to pick up 2 more thinking they were SAKs at first glance. No clue which ones they are though as I haven't researched that. Guess I should.

You and me both. Theres a reason I've kept a small pile around. I like Victorinox too, but Wenger has always been more interesting to me.

Could anyone please help me identify this 2 layer Wenger?  It's like a Trailblazer but with the dog-leg can opener.  I'm guessing it's just an older version of the Trailblazer?

Yep - I'd say fine to call it a Trailblazer -
Victorinox and Wenger did not usually change model names when an individual tool got updated with a new design

Trailblazer, Highlander, and Scout are all very similar.  Same four front tools with awl and phillips back tools.  All three of the above have the can opener on the blade end.  Yours is different from all of them in that respect.  I wonder if it originally had the short chain on the keychain nub?  Who knows.  Does it have toothpick and tweezers?  Best wishes.  G

Agree.  Unlike Vic, Wenger had some unique tools and combos which it would be nice to see resurface.

   In the 1960s Wenger had a US distributor in Indiana, I think.  They generally used numbers for their stock.  The Wenger 750 is close to your knife.  This is not my photo.  I found a photo after I figured out the number.  No toothpick, no tweezers (Highlander and Trailblazers usually have both).  It has the Z can opener in the right location but it does have a bail.  It is always possible that the scales on yours aren't original.  Might be original, but just a different year.  Wenger changed things around A LOT.  Best wishes.  G

It has been a while since I posted a Wenger photo of something I actually own.  This one is a Highlander.  No small blade, just a nail file.  The file surface is facing the off-side scale (phillips side).   Keeps it from scratching the main blade, I suppose.   I have never carried this knife, just taken it out of the package for general knife piddling.  It is noticeably lighter than something like a Tinker.  Best wishes.  G

Looks like the broken right half of that scale was glued on with something that had a chemical reaction as that half of the scale looks distorted by heat.  I thought it was epoxy at first but when I put it in a hot bath, the glue turned very gummy and peeled off.  Might be the original scales but who knows.

I'm on the lookout for a Wenger that could potentially donate it's scales though I feel bad relieving another old Wenger of it's scales.

    You did an excellent job of restoration on that old Voss multi-tool.  I saw how it was before and handled it.  Since you are making 3D scales now anyway, that old Wenger would look fine with a set of your manufacture.  Might be able to sell a few pairs of scales to some of the members here with sad old busted Wengers.  Best wishes.  G

  Appreciate it.    I'm still playing with the 3D printed scales on my Ranger.  I fine tuned my printer a bit more and printed a second set but they still fit tighter than I think they should.  I've learned that your printer needs to be tuned really well, just about exact, to print the scales out to the right dimensions.  I'm going to try again after I print some gifts for my in-laws (wife's request).  I think I'm getting there though.  Once I'm comfortable with the fitment I'll do a post on it.

Designing scales for a Wenger will be more of a struggle for me as I don't have good CAD software for it but it sounds like a fun challenge.

I like Wenger, not exactly sure why but I do. I have a few NOS models I need to post some pictures of them. But I also like Victorinox too - I have a couple of them, one I carry daily.

I enjoy this one a lot so I carry it quite often.  I'm not as smooth with the can opener but I manage.  I like the tool load out a lot.  I do wished Wenger would have did an awl like Vic tho.  Not complaining just thinking outloud.
