Crazy price on that SAK.  "All the blades are in good condition..." talk about being blind.  Reminds me of a recent Soldier auction where the sheild was badly damaged and the seller said the was in excellent near mint condition.   His sense of distance was obviously not the same as mine.

Must have seen hard use that knife.

I have had for EDC a Ap Blaze 10 since February, had in jeans or jacket pocket. I used it for small things for hobbies or just a stroll. The point was only to see wear resistance of the "coating" on them.
Even sometimes the rubbing against keys or mobilephone, this will scratch even the normal scales.

For me it seems the "coating" is strong against wear/abrasion on fabrics. I can not see much change, maybe just some more smooth.

I did do a sin. I scratched a part to see how thick it is, it got some thickness to it( can not measure it :D). Under it is white.

I should have worked better on these two pictures, just to get the correct color or shade of the orange. It will at least show the surface some. The camo is intact, just some small scratches that is not deep enough to go through the "coat"

A NIB sharper image King Arthur just went for $227.  Pretty crazy, that knife seems to be quite rare:

They were sold as the Diplomat series in Europe and the Dynasty series in North America.

http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Wenger+Dynasty+Series

Two different version of the fancy pattern, on the Lancelot (L) and King Arthur (R).

Looks good :)

Yes it is my info aswell that they were sold as Diplomat here in Europe, and Dynasty in North America. Somehow i like the Dynasty and the name of the knights best. Not sure the Ivanhoe name been used in Europe for example??

The Star designation: this is used on many different knife categories, if one look in the 1992-1995 EU French catalogue on Sakwiki one see this.

Yes, too high in my opinion.
I bought one some time ago for much less.
My model has some wear on the scales, but I'm going to replace them since they are the same as the smaller variants.

Karl,
so is there a Lancelot variation with the corkscrew?
I bought one from Felinvet with standard phillips, and my model has the same scales as the other from the series.

I read somewhere that the first King Arthur was an exclusive thru the Sharper Image catalog in the mid 80s. The SI catalog ones predate the Dynasty series. Is this correct?

Carlo,

I can't keep my left and right straight, particularly at two in the morning. Should be Lancelot (R) and King Arthur (L).

Fancy and plain King Arthurs, and fancy and plain Lancelots.

No problems, thanks for the pictures!!!!
I didn't know that both the King Arthur and the Lancelot had the two type scale variant.

Any ideas why there were 2 variants? Perhaps the difference between the European and N.A. models? Anyone have a Diplomat brochure?

To be honest I'm not even sure there were other variants sold in Europe apart from the "Ivanhoe" (1 58 00) and "Gawain" (1 59 00).
At least, I have never seen them for sale here.

These are my Wengers,  the Evolution S10 goes with me everyday.  I really like the locking blade tho I like a similar one with scissors.  I use a reflective cord on it cause i have dropped it at night and couldnt locate it quickly enuf.

Those are the only two I have European listing for in my notes. I hadn't heard that the fancy King Arthur was a special run for Sharper Image. The fancy Lancelot is what is listed in the catalogs; maybe the plain version was also a special order for some company.

That an Elk or Caribou tooth as a fob? Don't see that style past the mountain folk. First time seeing one suspended via paracord, but only makes sense - leather does become brittle over the many seasons.

It is just the tip of a large whale tooth, i am against whaling :) I respect the huge animal but i am not sure what whale? The tooth complete 15cm long.

PS maybe off topic with whaling:

It is part of the environment and the history behind it is brutal. Better today but there is not much whaling left here in this country. It seems there are more animals and many whales further north.

There is a fine line with the sea, man need fish to eat. The whales eat the fish aswell, maybe people in the future may have to harvest or kill whales to have enough fish to eat.

Some interesting knives I bought from Japan.
Not 100% sure about the black Motorist, but for the others I suspect they were only sold in Japan.

Some great looking stuff there!  :tu:

How did you get knives out of Japan? Every time I've tried I've been told they can't ship because of a) Japanese regulations, b) US regulations, and/or c) Victorinox regulations.

I honestly did not have any problems, and I'm pretty sure that japanese regulations do allow export of knives.
For shops not willing to ship internationally there is this service, which seems to be quite popular

I registered there, but had no need to use it (so can't really give an opinion)

Made another attempt. Set up an account with Amazon Japan. Ordered two Wengers and three Vics. Went to pay for them and all had a message saying they could not be shipped to my area. Probably the fourth time I've tried a Japanese dealer, and all with the same negative results.
