Benner's collection of multi's, SAK's and knives.
on: January 02, 2008, 05:25:20 PM
As I have just received the Gerber I was waiting for I thought I would finally take my collection pictures that I had promised.  I have had to use the wifes phone again to take the pictures as my camera is still out of action so I apologise for the low quality photo's.

First up is the picture of my collection before I found multitool.org...

Pictured is my trusty old PST and my Victorinox Mechanic.  This was 4.5 months ago when I was a normal person.

This is my collection now just 4.5 months later...

As you can see my collection has grown slightly.  :D  Let this be a warning to all you newbies out there!  This forum is guaranteed to empty your wallets.  :D

Pictured above starting at the top left hand side and working down and then on the right and working down are the following;

Douk Douk,
Leatherman KF4,
Marttiini Lumberjack,
Gerber Clutch,
'66 Wenger SI,
Frog tool,

Gerber Multiplier,

Early rivited PST,
Gerber Shortcut,

Up-to-date list on reply 28

This is not a huge collection by any means, but it is a good start and I have a huge list of tools to add to it.

Nice collection! Good to see its grown so much!

Early Gerber (MP600??),

Its probably called a "Multiplier", i have a needle-nose version that looks identical and that came in packaging that called it that.

I really need to buy a few more tools with my christmas money, its just deciding what to get!

There used to be a Powerlock but I just didn't get on with it.  I do intend on getting a powerassist though.  I have been looking forward to that for a while now.

Well I am not sure what is necessarily next, but I am thinking along the lines of a Powerassist or a Wenger Swissgrip.  But saying that, if any good deals come up in the mean time I would consider them.  :D

The blade is carbon steel and is pretty sharp actually.  The blade at it's thickest part is a shade over 2mm thick and goes down to a fine point.  The snap is pretty good as well.  The knife is very "basic" though.  I can't say it is very aesthetically pleasing.

I got mine from Marc at EDC depot for a pretty good price;

That one is the smaller one of the 2.  He does stock the larger ones as well.

The Pulse is (In essence) a locking PST II?

How do you like it?

Whatta 'bout the Multiplier?

The pulse has never really been on my list, but a (blunt nose) multiplier features around #7

The Pulse is pretty much a locking PST II and it feels a very solid tool.  The rolled edges make it very comfortable to use and the scissors and the diamond file are great.  I am not too keen on the locking mechanism though.  It does work, but I find it very difficult to release.  Also, because the blade locks it is also illegal for me to EDC so I still tend to carry my PST more.

I am really fond of the multiplier.  I like the flick out pliers and the tool selection really suits me and as it is an older one, the blades don't lock either so I can EDC it.

Are they really that strict on the laws o'er there (off-topic - do you still have chimney sweeps?)

Our laws be reasonably similar on paper, but I ain't never been called up on a locker.

(though front page local news of the second stabbing since new years or some such put me in fear of, well, fear that will deprive me of, I won't say my "rights", but the freedom I enjoy - it makes one tempted to be a vigilante, beating the snot out of drunken teenagers, but I hardly see how that will improve anything, other than that the papers can say "Crowbar wielding psychopath" instead of "Drunk teen violence" )

While I'm looking up news articles - Is Australia having a World's Biggest smurf competition or something?

Are they really that strict on the laws o'er there (off-topic - do you still have chimney sweeps?)

Our laws be reasonably similar on paper, but I ain't never been called up on a locker.

(though front page local news of the second (fatal?) stabbing since new years or some such put me in fear of, well, fear that will deprive me of, I won't say my "rights", but the freedom I enjoy - it makes one tempted to be a vigilante, beating the snot out of drunken teenagers, but I hardly see how that will improve anything, other than that the papers can say "Crowbar wielding psychopath" instead of "Drunk teen violence" )

I have never been stopped for anything to be honest and I would never wave a knife or multi around to try and attract any unwanted attention.  I do like to stay on the right side of the law when it comes to these things.  I am a strong believer in Sod's law and I just know that if I was to carry a locking blade without any good reason I would be randomly searched and caught. Also, my job requires me to have a clean CRB check (police records check) so I need to keep clean in order to keep my job.

Oh, and yes there are still chimney sweeps but they are very uncommon.  :D

The sad thing is he's like a lot of the people I knew growing up. The only difference was they didn't look like a male prostitute :P
