Weird Ebay SAK
on: October 30, 2011, 07:54:45 PM
Hi, I just found an SAK on ebay that appears to be a modeler with pliers, i checked the SAK wiki and didn't find anything.  Any ideas?

SwissChamp, actually, but same idea

It's a common knife with the saw and fish scaler closed. You'll find a lot of sellers simply don't know the saw and fish scaler are there. They open everything with a nail nick and take the picture. There are lots of SAK collectors out there who got excited about the Modeler they just scored and when they get it find that it's really a Champion. I have several old knives that I've bought as Climbers that are really Hunstmans.

In this case the give-away is the chisel AND fine screwdriver on the back. These only exist on file and saw layers. Since there are two of them, there must be a saw that's not open. Older Champions with only the fine screwdriver (pre-87) are harder to ID.

The Modeler is the first SAK I ever bought.  I was stationed in Germany and the first week I was there I was walking through the village I was stationed at and saw a store that was selling SAK's.  I had always wanted one so stopped in and ended up buying a Modeler.  I had gotten pretty beaten up over the years and I decided to see if I could get it refurbished a couple years ago.  I ended up sending it to Victorinox in Switzerland because US Victorinox did a horrible job refurbishing it.  When I got the Modeler back from Ibach I couldn't believe the awesome job they did.  Not only did they refurbish it to new condition but they replaced the parts with original parts.  :tu:
