2007 tool purchases in review
on: January 03, 2008, 05:16:40 AM
I started this year off with a different hobby focus, multis were a former concern in the face of CREE flashlights. As the year wore on the shiny luster of super-bright LEDs faded and I rolled back around to the exceptionally useful pocket gizmos.

Here's where I was when the year started:

A few Leathermans, the Charge is king

And a few Gerbers, both were given to me as found items the giver thought I would enjoy.

As the year wore on and I became more involved in this forum I started learning some multi history and acquiring some more interesting variants.

I found some Bucks.

Then I bought some Gerbers.

Then I got a Bear tool and some miscellaneous junk.

Then the Zilla-Tool came out and the year got a little cooler.

Then I got  little carried away with eBay and ended up with a few more Leathermans.

So I ended the year with two bags of spare parts and an interesting multi-tool with no hand tools at all.

All in all it was a good multi year for me. I learned a lot about this hobby and acquired some good tools in some odd places. This year I'm going to try to buy less tools but acquire more Black Oxide tools and finally get some Victorinox in my collection.

Anyone else reviewing this year's purchases? We already saw Benner's yearly haul.  ;)

I did (), those pictures are from a few weeks ago. No new tools since then.  :(

prime, that Mario board is a game my Mother and Father designed and constructed for my siblings and I when we were children. It comes complete with several handpainted game pieces of the Mario Bros. Characters. I'm going to be moving a load of books in tonight and will try to get some pictures of it.

That's really cool Spoon. Your parents really put some time in to that one.

Question: are those two Buck 360's identical?

Nope, the one on top is the Workman model, the one on bottom is a much earlier model. Like different vintage Leatherman Waves there are all sorts of small differences between the two 360s.

A "Spoonrobot Picture Analysis" of the differences would be interesting to see someday.... :multi:

You are very welcome, it was neat to have a tool cross the Atlantic and hang out in the UK for a little while.

Also, the 360/360WM picture comparison is in the works.

Then I got a Bear tool and some miscellaneous junk.

Another question for you Spoon: how far are you from Jacksonville Alabama? Have you ever thought about stopping by the Bear & Son factory?

Also, is that Husky tool a real Micra or a knockoff?

I'm pretty sure it's a knockoff; look at the little "hook" where the lanyard ring should be; that hooks over to the other handle to keep it closed.  I might be wrong, but I had one just like it (not Husky brand though).

According to Google Maps; I am 107 miles from there. It might be fun to take a day trip there, I know some good sites for exploring on the way. I'll drop them a line and see if they give tours and such.

Also, the Husky tool is and isn't a Micra knockoff since it has pliers instead of scissors. It was a pretty decent deal for 1.99$.
