Your top 5 fav sci fi weapons
on: January 03, 2008, 02:22:43 PM
So what are you to 5 favorite science fiction weapons ???

I'll go first, and sorry if there a little predictable :D

1) Well this one's kinda obvious, The humble Light Sabre, who hasn't laid awake at night dreaming of having one and what they'd do with it >:D

2)Worfs Bat'leth, back in the dim and distant past when I had money, I came very close to having one made for me out of 1095 :-[, wish I had now :D

3)Anatheme from the horus heracy book's, whisper the name of the person you want to kill, then all you need do is draw a tiny bit of there blood for them to die >:D

4)Mal's pistol/revolver from Firefly, purely because it looks so cool :D

5)Not really a weapon as such, but the bio-suits from the Guyver manga's

So what about you guy's have I missed anything ???

I don't know if this counts since it's more video game than sci-fi, but I like the Flak Cannon from Unreal Tournament.  It's had numerous redesigns, but it's pretty well the same thing every time.  It has two firing modes, one that fires red hot metal fragments, and one that lobs a fragmentation grenade.  Both are capable of killing almost any enemy with a single round, but only at close to medium ranges.  The primary fire is effective within approximately 10 feet, while the fragmentation grenade can launch 30 feet (or so) but is only effective for about 5 feet around the impact zone.

I agree on the lightsaber...

The Highlander's sword may not be as remarkable as some, but I've always lusted after it, despite it's only real power being to electrocute the actor who wields it... For those who don't know, during the big fight scene at the end of the first movie, Kurgen and Mcleods swords were hooked up to car batteries to make the fancy sparks when they touched.  Given that in a deleted scene they had knocked over a water tower and everything was wet, they both ran the risk of being fried!

This one is useless, but boy does it look cool- the 5 pointed throwing dagger gizmo from Krull:

And lastly, this may not qualify as a weapon per se, but the IG model assasin droid from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back would certainly come in handy during a fight.  It's significantly more resourceful than a Terminator, although it lacks the funny accent...

If the IG model assassin droid doesn't count, then I'll take one of Judge Dredd's Lawgivers...

It has various forms of ammunition and firing modes, all accessible by voice command.

You may want to do something about that exposed Thermal Exhaust port though...

Two meters is bigger than you think!

I think I'd rather have the acid equipped robotic spiders from that movie than the gun!

It was an early 80's movie- Gene Simmons is a technological master criminal who uses small robots to commit crimes.  Since this was the days before CG, they actually had robots doing the work, including these spiders with syringes full of acid.  They'd walk up to you, then leap unexpectedly, latching onto you and injecting you with the acid, killing you in a very painful manner.  It was a very interesting concept, but overdone in typical 80's style.  Good for a laugh, or maybe to watch once, but I wouldn't suggest wasting your money on buying the extended length DVD!
