t6 leds. fenix and trustfire. what do you know?
on: November 07, 2011, 03:38:01 AM
So the new fenix tk70 uses t6 leds. Trustfire has a light for 70 dollars with the t6 leds. Anyone know if it is any good? I want a light that can throw thanks for the info.

Personally I opted for T5 last time I upgraded an LED - wanted something a touch warmer than a T6.

My thrower is the Catapult so I can't comment on that beast!

My general rule is to stay away from anything with a *fire label...

T6's are nice emitters, certainly one of the most efficient on the market right now, but they have their limitations as well.

There are two questions you need to consider: 1) what is your use for the light, 2) what do you currently have in terms of your battery/charging loadout?

1) can generally be answered as either EDC, or other special uses such as LEO work, outdoor activities, S&R, etc.

2) is usually either AA or CR123 for most people, but this can also include whether you've invested in Li-ion RCR's as well vs just primaries or nimh's.

Regardless of that, I'd also recommend you consider a T5; they have a much nicer tint and I find them to be more usable than T6 based lights.

Thanks guys. I am trying to get a thrower. I have plenty of small edc lights. Until yesterday my best thrower was a romisen  500 lumen light. It is the only light I have that puts put more light than 200 lumens. I have two others that claim to put out 200 lumens or more but not really. I bought them from deal extreme.
Yesterday I got a mag light for 15 dollars at home depot. It is a Christmas special. It only has 138 lumens but it throws much further than the romisen. I already have a mag led but it does not throw as far. Mag had really improved their leds. The package advertises 388 meters of throw and I believe it!
What are some incredible throwers I should consider? Price is ideally 100 but I may go to 200 if needed

Here's a good general overview of several throwy lights:

In general, Selfbuilt's reviews are the best technical reviews for flashlights that I've seen.

My own opinion though would be to look into the EagleTac M series lights.  They have a reputation for being throwy, and their older models are available with neutral emitters as well.
