New organisers for my most used gear
on: November 06, 2011, 06:06:19 PM
I was doing a bit of cleaning today and ended up making an even bigger mess. :ahhh

I used my desk drawer as an blade/flashlight/EDC drawer for ages now, which was OK when I had but a few items, but as my collection grew this became a problem. There wasn't room for anything else, and all the rest, scissors, pens, roulers, cables, ... the stuff that once lived in the drawer started cluttering my workspace.

I decided to try to organise it a bit. The items I don't use much went back in their boxes and on the shelf.

The most used EDC stuff got boxed too.   :D

I had a few boxes around (big - graphic card, small - old cell phone) and there was some styrofoam in the attic so I started playing. Each box has four layers of styrofoam, two by two, and the top two have a layer of "lesonit" (I don't know the english name for it but it's used as the back wall in closets) to give it strength as they carry a bit of weight. I used 450 paracord for handles to lift up the upper layer. I still have to smooth out the edges and apply some wood glue on the edges so it doesn't crumble, but here is how it looks so far. An inexpensive EDC box.

It looks like a great way to track your gadgets.  I do something similar but without the foam  :tu:

looks great mate. :tu:  BTW I think the stuff you are talking about would simply be call 'hardboard' here. :)
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Very neatly done.  I think it would look like it'd been snowing if I attempted that :D
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I filled that empty slot in the flashlight section today with the 47s Quark AA, I was waiting for the replacement body to arrive (but that's a whole different story :ahhh ). So now it's stuffed to the rim  :D . I bought an UKPK just two days ago so I'll have to transfer one of the Cara Cara's back to its original box and into the big storage box. I have other SAK's and knives but they don't make it into my EDC rotation so often so they live in the big box too.

The original idea was to make a small wooden cabinet and have the drawers filled with something like "Pick-N-Pluck" foam you see in those Otterboxes + a wristw@tch organiser on top and stands for my glasses. The problem is, I can't find the foam around here. I'll probably make the cabinet during the winter break though. You'll find out if I do. :D
