Shame with that cast pin, you'd of thought it to be either both sides or rod type of thing all the way through the plier Still liking these SwitchPliers, unique design again for SOG and as 50ft-trad says, it would be nice to see these again with a bit more Oomph but until then be gentle

A steel rod all the way through the plier, engaged by the handle on both sides, would make a world of difference IMO.

Not so sure about that solution since a steel rod all the way through will render the plier head incapable to open
I think a better approach will be a Box Joint type of Plier, like the one in the Schrade ST5E: As you commented about them in this thread: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,29172.msg501064.html#msg501064They could also use laminated steel plate construction which will be cost effective
