Here's to those PocketToolX Brewster & Piranha owners.

Thanks to Mr. Whippy for bringing this wonderful tool to everyone's attention back in May.  :tu:

Had tried to win one since seeing Mr' Whippy's post, even tried subtle begging, no such luck in getting one. Then there was two periods of time where there were back-to-back discounts. Leapt onto a discount and been EDCing the Piranha carrying in my Leatherman leather Charge sheath in the back pocket, right behind the Charge TTi.

Have used it for a few tightening chores, prying frozen veggies apart, light prying, etc. Even used it this past October to help scrape out and guide-cut parts of a All Hallow's Eve pumpkin for a silly Leatherman pumpkin carving contest.
(Never again doing any more stupid themes for pumpkins, especially when the company holding it changes their theme mid-contest.)

The Outcome

Learned a lot this year from the previous year's entry:

So along the way PocketToolX had a contest for whacky ways people used their Piranhas, so I entered a photo and tagged a mess of others. As fate would have it, finally did win a Piranha...

So far I have not opened the new Piranha. Not sure whether to keep it as a collectible, or open it later if I could lose or break mine (one year warranty). For now it will hang on the wall above my computer desk.  :D  As one friend said before, 1 is none, 2 is 1.

First, I'd like to clarify that David Bowen actually first mentioned the Piranha.  I just lusted after one until David took pity on me and sent me one. :salute:

Second,  I really like the Piranha as an EDC one piece tool.  I rotate mine regularly with my Atwoods.  One thing that's great about the PTX Piranha:  If you lose it, it's easy to replace. :tu:  I think they work extremely well.

Third, I have put away my stamped Piranha (since it's NLA) and have started carrying the new laser etched one instead.  ;)

Fourth, I'm less of a fan of the Brewster.  I just don't get enough function from it.  :(

Finally, The Ti Mako is ALSO a very nice tool, and I'm working on how I want to EDC that one as well.

(PS:  That's some pretty fancy pumpkin carving there Jim!   :o )

THANK YOU, DAVID BOWEN, FOR YOUR ENLIGHTENMENT ON THIS FABULOUS TOOL!

Third, I have put away my stamped Piranha (since it's NLA) and have started carrying the new laser etched one instead.  ;)

What is NLA, Sir Whippy?

Finally, The Ti Mako is ALSO a very nice tool, and I'm working on how I want to EDC that one as well.

Originally PTX posted winners would of had a choice between the Mako or the Piranha. Since had a Piranha was going to ask for the Mako. Did not get a choice in the end. The new etched do look more handsome than the stamped critter.

I'd love a Mako, but I'm just not convinced that titanium would make a good material for this sort of tool :-\

My other half want to get me something for Xmas, but I can't make up my mind weather it should be the Mako or Piranha and she'll not get me both :D
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

I wasn't sold on this company at first and I actually found them to be an Atwood copy, but after further review I think they're just different enough to pass my rigid standards.  :D   I think the Brewzer tool is simply awesome! Probably the best keychain tool in the world for the $$$.  :tu:

How is the cutting edge of the Piranha? Does it hold up against box cutting?

I bought both as well. I just got them. Haven't had time to put them through the ringer. Just holding them I found the brewzer to be to small so I gave that one to my co-worker to use. I have high hopes for the piranha.  We open a lot of paint cans so I went looking for little pry bars to put on my work keys, and ended up finding this and the edc forum.  Love all the tools.  I've already bought tons of other stuff too.  I wish there was a amazon link from the page so I could shop and support the website.

It's not really a cutting edge, more of a thin part that is curved so it will catch on the edge of packing tape.  It works pretty well but don't buy one thinking that it's sharp and great for cutting boxes.  It's simply a nice little addition that works well enough.  It is pretty great that they tried to make use of every part of the body of the Piranha, and it really is a great overall tool.  I find that I use the scraper more than anything, oddly enough.

Just got my Piranha yesterday (it replaced an Atwood that I sold). So far, so good. A little bigger than I expected, but still hangs nicely off my keychain. I bought it to compliment my Leatherman Juice kf4. The Piranha has the bottle opener that the kf4 lacks, plus, there have been numerous times where i needed both pliers AND a wrench or a second screwdriver (working with nuts and bolts, etc). Also, I see myself putting the Piranha through much more abuse than my leatherman because it is easier to replace than my discontinued KF4 and almost impossible to get Atwoods.

I didn't have any beer at the house yesterday, do I can't tell you how the opener worked. Will definitely try it out after work!   :tu:

Your welcome, I like the piranha so much I own two. I don't carry pocket tools too much anymore, mainly just a single or multi-blade knife. I really went through a pocket tool phase, got like 30 or more. The piranha is by far one of my favorites. Want to see some other cool tools but hard to find? Check out Olaf Anderson and his two tools, think he sells them on Arizona custom knives website.

Well, I'm in  :tu:

Read about this tool here, and finally decided to give it a try.
Got mine in the mail yesterday   :mail:
It was ordered from the UK, since I didn't manage to find a supplier in Norway that carried it, and it's sold out at the factory at the moment. Took only three days to get here, not bad for a small package  :tu:

So far, I've tried the bottle opener and package opener - they worked fine for me.
We'll see how it's gonna be carried (had it in the left front pocket of my jeans yesterday, but there's probably a better spot for it), and how often it's gonna be used.

It was bought as a supplement for my Spirit, SAK's and Leatherman tools (holding nuts when tightening screws and bolts, use as a scraper, and so on), and for carry in situations where a knife will be frowned upon.

Guess everyone know that Leatherman now owns PocketToolX.

Good news is the older products by PocketToolX now have a 25 year warranty

PocketToolX is Now Part of the Leatherman Family

We are excited to share some great news with you. On June 22, 2012, Leatherman Tool Group, Inc., (LTG) parent company to Leatherman® multi-tools and LED Lenser® lights, acquired the PocketToolX™ (PTX) company. We know that the PTX folks have acquired a great fan base over the years and we want to take this chance to welcome to all of you, into the new LTG family of companies.

The first models we will convert to the Leatherman brand will be existing ones: The Brewzer™ Keychain Tool, the Mako™ Ti Bike Tool, and the Piranha™ Pocket Tools. We anticipate many more in the years to come and know that all Leatherman tools, including any PTX tools under the Leatherman brand, are covered under our 25-year, no-questions-asked warranty.

Carrying the Piranha in a Charge sheath, in the elastic retainer area. Though lately it is bugging me when reaching for my Charge TTi and my thumb nail hits the end every time. The MTO saw blade I can fit in on an angle so it is not as annoying.

Am wondering if anyone has found a way to carry their Piranha comfortably, and/or found a sheath or some other form of carry.
