New oiling technique.

I have a large bottle of mineral oil to lube my mt,knifes etc.The problem was getting the oil from the bottle to the tool.I started out with a eye dropper but what a mess.I had a 6 inch plastic cable tie laying on my work area and the light bulb lit up.I dipped small end of the cable tie in the oil,let the excess drip off and inserted it near the pivot points.The oil wicked in at the exact place I wanted it and no mess at all.Try it,you will like it.

Not a bad idea. I often use some regular cotton thread- soak it in oil and "floss" the pivot point to get the oil right in there.

I've always used a 1cc syringe with sharp needle tip ground off so I don't accidentally stab myself, they are maybe 40 cents at your local pharmacy.

My Leathermans tend to rust. I guess it's my sweaty hands or the environment here...
So I go all out and coat the suckers with oil, and then I wipe off some of the the excess.

I use a product called Bluecreeper...it used to be called Rustreaper.
It is the best, and comes in a small bottle with a needle nose applicator.

UPDATE:

I recently purchased a Leatherman ST300. And right out of the package I thought that the hinge was a bit tight, and it would stick when the jaws were fully open. I used the Bluecreeper with the needle applicator, and now it feels better with less resistance...but then again I don't know how it is suppose to feel like, since this my first experience with a Leatherman.

I do the same thing. I typically oil my tools while watching TV, so I just coat the pivot ends and fiddle with the tool and a paper towel until I don't see any residual oil. It's pretty humid here even in winter so I have to be careful. That said, my tools live in their leather sheaths and I have yet to find any rust on them if they are kept oiled.
