BF Rules Changed AGAIN WTF
on: November 17, 2011, 05:24:13 AM
So I post a FS thread on BF and knife sales well I then decide to sell another knife so I make new thread as I had done closed other and so forth. Well I do and I'm then informed rules changed again   >:( and only 1 thread a day. WTF I'm so tired of the rules changing.  :ahhh  :ahhh  :ahhh  :ahhh  Just needed to vent.

Why do we pay to use something and then rules change weekly or sometimes daily.   >:(

While I don't agree with the way BF is run (and that's a personal thing), it's their forum to run any way they choose.  Given how successful they have been over the years, it's hard to say they are doing it wrong, although it's just not my cup of tea.

I will say this though- if they are making a significant change like that, it has likely been thought seriously about and is in response to some abuse of privileges.  While I don't know what their process is, I do know that if we were to implement a change like that (not that we are, just using it as an example) a very significant amount of thought and discussion would have gone into it first.

I've seen sales threads 'abused' on a local forum I visit  :-\

When I am selling several items they all go in the same thread; I've seen people create four threads for four separate items  :o It wastes everyone's time having to go into each thread plus they are pushing three threads from the all important first page  :twak:

I've also seen the other extreme on EDCF where some people just update their sales thread from several months ago  ::) I stopped looking at those as they are so messy you never what's sold or not sold  >:(

I'm sure they have their reasons, but then I never cared for BF.

That's why I like it here.  Simple, easy to follow rules and mods that are nice about infractions.  I have never had a bad trade or sale here.  I have had things take forever to get to places and vice versa, but that has to do with crappy customs everywhere!

Bumping and multiple listings were becoming so pervasive that your sales post would disappear quickly from the front few pages.

By disallowing bumping and causing multiple listings to be shown in a single post, a sales post will stay on the front page much longer.  I think that was the point.  I think its a good thing.

Well an old saying comes to mind when I think about BF. They can dish it out, but they can't take it.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I advertise my paracord bracelets on several local Facebook "For Sale"pages and the rule is only one bump per 24 hr.People have their friends make comments on their post which bumps it to the top of the page so my ad may stay on the front page for about 10 minutes.I may switch to Craigeslist.

there was a similar thing happening on a knife forum I use. Lots of "oh nice work mate" and "wow that's a great deal, if ony I had the money!!" type comments. Yes they had a "only one bump every 24hr rule" but that was useless when others comments kept bumping the sales threads up.

So rules changed to "no comments of sales threads". At first it was a bit of a shock as some of the comments were for real. But looking back it was only fair and makes the sales threads part of the forum work much better now..

One of the forums I read only allow seller to reply the for sale thread, and questions PM seller, seems to keep the for sale section pretty tidy. Bump is only allowed once per week too.

Ouch.  Although I hate it when they change rules and the occasional forum look, it beats having an entire forum that closed down within 2 days.  Entire site just went "poof".
