Here is the driver door.  I had to remove over half the letters and re do them because it sagged in the middle.  They are all held on with 3m double sided automotive tape and adhesion promoter on the plastic side.  I got them straight by marking their correct locations on a piece of masking tape that I had applied to the door parallel with the body line.  I checked the gaps against a factory nameplate and they are within a tenth of an inch.  The little square in the front is called a "GM Mark of Excellence" by GM, and is put on some newer models with these letters.  The letters came off a  2010 Chevy Silverado LT, mine is an 05 LT.  The 05 nameplates were destroyed when I removed them, so sorry no pics there!

Driven about once a month; sitting in the Garage most of the time. Just not very practical compared to other cars (Size, performance etc). 1978 model with most of it replaced through the years.
Aparently the gypsies love them in Eastern Europe..

The Ka is actually a really good city car. :tu:  I just wouldn't recommend trying to get four people and luggage in it for a weekend away, though I can attest to the fact it is possible, just not comfy. ;)

As usual, good little cars like these are not sold here.  But you can have you pick of fuel-guzzling  monstrosities.

That Ka looks an awful lot like the Mazda 2, which should be available in the US now as well?

They came to Canada last year, and the wife and I test drove it.  Not bad for a little economy car but I thought the front end felt a little too soft.  I cant imagine it would survive too many years on the potholes cemented together that we call roads here, so we bought a Golf instead.

Otherwise it was a nice car at a good price.

You wouldn't believe how much luggage, flat-packed furniture, sheets of dry wall, etc. fit it that little car :D

Yes, I believe the current Ka shares its platform and a lot of parts with the Mazda 2 :tu: Same goes for the Fiesta and the Mazda 3.

They're on different segments, mazda 3 is bigger. Perhaps mazda3 and ford focus, instead?

When I was a kid I saw many 190Ds, which looked like yours. They had fame to go up to 1 million kms without replacing any engine major parts.

Once in a while people praise old models for its longevity and bash newer models, but we've a "recent", 10yrs old, citroen xsara 2.0 hdi, that goes with 360 kkms, and has its engine block almost as was back then.  :drink:

You're right. The platforms are related however:

Only had it about 6 months now, and put about 4000km on it...

Nice car, Reinier! :salute: Bigger too. I made the same decision last winter when buying a new car. Didn't think too much of the added gas expenses though. Stronger engine/more gas

What quality of gas (octane) do you have available in Canada? I was surprised a week or so ago to learn that you could get 87 in the US. :ahhh Does the Golf "complain" about it? We don't have anything below 95 in Europe. 95, 98 and 100 are all we get here.

I have never been so thankful to drive a 4x4.  The snow was so deep at my house today I had to put her in 4 low to get out of my driveway.

I think the octane system used in the US & Canada differs from the European one
