Phillips head mod ?
on: December 04, 2011, 06:47:29 AM
I don't have any use, for a phillips head driver out in the bush. I am thinking about grinding it down into some sort of awl/drill. Has anybody here done this? Any pics of your handy work? I don't own a SAK with a awl so i don't have anything to work off. Cheers Peter
PS i know the smart thing to do, would be to replace the phillips, with a awl. But i have know idea how to do that, or where to start.

Gday Gareth this is what i have done to it so far. It has put a hole in a metal can, then cut a line in it, put a hole in 5mm leather, and drilled green wood. The photo is crap, which helps hide my lack of skill with a file { i hope }  :D

A little update i have used it to drill dry wood now, and cut hoochie cord. I am happy with how it turned out, considering i have no idea what i am doing.

If you can drill a small hole in it to take a piece of cord, you'd have an awesome tool... that way you could stitch with it as well.

Hi Heinz She is sharp, one push and it goes through a metal can, and tears it open.

I have thought about this, why not modify tools by changing/grinding/filing them down?

what holds me back is most tips/ends are tempered and heat treated to add more durability and help them last longer without dulling so fast or bending so easy.

be careful in it's use but nice job! :salute:

Perfect, did a great job drilling the hole.  I think this is the perfect mod the the Hunter XT also.
