EDC field report:Pens
on: November 27, 2011, 09:48:14 PM
Thanks to all of you who have contributed to my EDC pen thread.Heres a little feedback on the results

So far I've recieved a Fisher Stowaway, and a Tombow Pfit, both ordered and delivered in the ususal quick manner by Hennies.

The Fisher is very slender, and rights well. The hardened tip to use as a stylis lookedlike a useful adittion in a world filled with ever more touchscreens. My biggest concern was the clip, which given the small slender nature of the pen didnt look like it would hold onto much.Turns out I was wrong.Six hours into my working Saturday,my hand went to my LM pouch to grab a pen to write down some tourist instructions for a punter. The lid was there but the pen was long gone...it dropped out of the lid

The Tombow on the otherhand was where I left it.Not as pretty,but...its still there!

Theres a Zebra on its way,so theres more still to come

Nice report  :salute: shame about the Stowaway  but that's one to the Pfit. Those Pfit's are well cheap, not a big deal if you lose it, will watch for the Zebra report :tu:

Man I'd be annoyed about the Stowaway. >:(  Thanks to your thread I've got my eye on the Pfit as well, what colour did you get?

ps. Just in case anyone missed the size of Pfit, its 3 1/2" or 9 cm, will fit in sheath/pouch with some MT's

Heres a bit of an undate on the EDC pen tests.

The Tombow Pfit may end up being the overall winner. It went down to the gun club with me today for the guest day and remain secure and to hand at all times. The big test for the little guy is when it goes off on Southern Hunters duty with me for a real field test!Being able to write on the score card in wet anf muddy conditions will be the real test!

My Zebra expander arrived on Friday, and passed its first test:I didnt loose it on Saturday at work!It fits well into the LM pouch, and clips securely. Its nice to write with and scores well on looks and to the touch.

I also ordered a Spyderco Bailyo, but got the cheaper(!) version.Service from Heinnies was as always first class but the pen kinda sucks. The cheaper one hasnt got the Fisher refill. It write ok but feels odd in the hand. Its bulky and odd shaped for pouch carry.I could forgive this if it was fun to play with, but really,I just cant find the fun in it.UK price was £15,which I could have lived with, until I seen the US price...$9.Hum Ho,us brits getting stung again...

More to follow, with pix as well

Not sure if the Pfit will be as good in the wet and rain as its just a standard pen the Airpress might be a better choice as its pressurised, has a pocket clip, rubberised texture and fixing for a lanyard, bit longer at 4 3/4" or 12 cm :tu:
