Just saw the mythbusters on the news. A cannonball went through a house and ended up in a car.

I loved that show for the first 5 seasons or so, watched every episode made up to about 7th season. But the fact they had to blow something every episode started to get boring. Don't get me wrong, I love a good BANG every now end then, but every episode??

The explosions are my kids' favorite parts!  Especially my 3 year old daughter...  ::)

Gee, I wonder what that says about what she'll be when she grows up?   :o

Funny though- they always were pretty careful before, and their insurance company was always on them about doing certain things.  This was probably just one of those odd things that happens that was beyond anyone's control.

Hope the Mythbusters series won't be a watered down version after that incident. But I do hope they'll have stricter safety protocol, that was not a laughing matter, imagine you and your family lived in that neighborhood where the cannon ball struck..... that is pretty scary stuff.

I'll bet the next myth they bust is that you can't fix a cannonball sized hole in someone's home and car in less than a week!  :D

Seriously, how cool would it be to have Kari, Grant, Tory, Adam and Jamie at your house fixing the drywall?  :D

Well they can make that specific site safer by making the dirt barriers steeper.  Sounds like when the cannonball hit it, it acted like a launch ramp and sent it SAILING!!!

Given the owner's response (I read they were pretty angry about the incident), I'd suspect the MB crew will simply hire a contractor to do any and all necessary repairs for the family.  I'd also speculate they'll also throw in some extra work as well.  Given that their projects on the show have gotten progressively more complex and involved as time has gone on, I doubt the Adam, Jaime, and the rest of the crew really have time to do such work themselves.

But, it would be cool though... :D

The thing is, how many cannons, rockets, missiles, hot water ranks etc have they launched?  Now how many of those were done safely?  As I understand it, something went wrong and the cannonball didn't go where it was supposed to.  This was something that no one could have predicted- and tragically that happens from time to time.

One has to wonder if houses built that close to a bomb range are really that great, and maybe the owner is just raising a stink to try and get his 15 minutes of fame?

Sorry Grant, but in my opinion the home owners are not raising stink, they are just family guys scared for the safety of their children........ sorry to say the mythbusters or their expert is at fault here, not an expert but I think one of the fundamental rule in handling firearms is to know where your projectile is going to hit.

Firearms yes- and also for cannons.  I am not making excuses for the Mythbusters, but I see two concerns here.  First off, I wouldn't live that close to a bomb range.  We have a munitions depot and several refineries in town here, and they are extremely cheap compared to other houses.  Like anywhere else, you get what you pay for, and I paid more for my place so I would be less likely to explode.  I'm not saying it's their fault for buying there, but these are things you have to take into account when you make your decision to live there.

The other point is that they do this at an FBI bomb range, under the supervision of FBI explosive experts.  Now had this been an FBI experiment with no TV show involved, would it have been as big news?  I think the people of the neighborhood would have been a lot more forgiving had there not been a chance for media involvement.

I'm not suggesting that they would have been ok with a cannonball going through their house, but accidents happen and there is going to be reparations made- probably some improvements as well to cover the inconvenience.

In a case like this, I could do with a couple of cannonballs through my house....  :ahhh

Not defending the media but without media involvement I think they would not be as careful as they will be next time, just my opinion. And yes you cannot fault the home owners from buying the property. I LOVE the mythbusters coolest guys and show  :tu: What I am just pointing out is that, in just THIS particular episode they have lapses, if they have taken the right precautions this would have not happened. And this is a BIG DEAL, I know that no one has hurt and some can look back and laugh about it, but this could have been a great tragedy children and adults could have been killed.
Not bashing Myhtbusters I love those guys, its just they should be more careful next time, if a bad accident would happened, I hate to see the show being watered down or worse cancelled...... I love to see the they keep on busting :)
And by the way, much Love and Respect, Grant  :salute:

Always respect buddy!  We can always disagree here without any issues!  :D

All I was saying is that there's always the potential for the unforeseen happening, otherwise there would never be any kind of accidents ever.  You can take all the precautions in the world and yet still have accidents.

From what I know about insurance companies, what will probably happen is that Discovery will be forced to move all the experiments to uninhabited regions. Most likely somewhere in the California desert, and probably the Great Salt Lake in Utah for the driving type tests. Along with this, the homeowner likely will become a very wealthy man.

This will keep the lawyers and politicians happy.

Never underestimate the power of the fleece
