Say, is there a fairly easy way of wrapping paracord around a stave without it gaining gaps when used later?

JD's video is a good one to follow, I used the same spiral hitching on a hiking staff, just starting and finishing with a simple Turk's head knot, all one continuous length of paracord.

Here's another example working from the center of your length of cord, tying repeated half knots to get the twisting pattern.

And another with St. Mary's Hitching...

Those are fairly simple wraps.  You can look to ringbolt hitching and long Turk's head knots for more advanced work if the knot tying bug bites you...  ;)

I've only just discovered this forum, and I've been reading this thread with great interest. Some of you have been making paracord plaited belts, with 'standard" type tongued buckles and have noticed that the tongues tend to fray the paracord. There's a solution to this..here Down Under, a popular 'old-timer'- style belt is often made from thin kangaroo leather thongs, about 1/8'' wide. Ordinary style buckles don't work that well with thonging either..so what they often used to fasten the belts were 2 brass rings ( normally from old bridles/halters) I see no reason the same sort of fastening wouldn't work with paracord..and look good as well. See the following picture.  The only change to a normal style belt is to increase the overall length by 7 or 8 inches to allow for turn-over.

I like that belt, if could only get one my size.

I like this lanyard that Donald made for his Wenger SI. Am assuming that is one-piece of paracord, and wonder how one makes something like that.

Also have another idea: Is there a way to end a lanyard with a small magnifying glass like those on Vics & Wengers? Probably would need a sliding cover to protect the the magnifier element.
Was wondering if anyone had some ideas on that. It could help put a magnifier on knives and not need to modify them ... although may not be as sexy.

That one is shown as knot #787 in 'The Ashley Book of Knots'(ABoK) and goes by many different names including some of these listed in Ashley's book: the sailor's knife lanyard knot, marlingspike lanyard knot, single-strand diamond knot, two-strand diamond knot, bosun's whistle knot, boatswain's whistle knot, button knot, and just plain 'lanyard knot'.  Lots of tutorials online to tie it and seeing it done from different perspectives can help when just one sometimes isn't enough.

Here's a short video showing the way I learned to tie it. :)

Awesome. Thank you very much. Looks easier to tie it than by looking at the knot. Now to get some paracord later in the day and try my hand at it.  :tu:   :D

That wasn't too hard :) Had a piece of nylon laying around, so I tried, made it alright in one time :)

Looks like I will have to order parachute cord as the only local shops in our area (2 stores) have very limited choices.

The Outdoorsman said they ordered more before Thanksgiving and not seen their shipment. They have a speckled green or white in a rough outer braid - ugly, more for utility rope. They do have a smaller and a really thin cord in mostly subdued colors. They did have plenty of pink or pink-red normal sized cord.

D & B Supply has the normal size in white, red, and black.

Had ordered some parachute cord a while back that was supposed to be the real deal. Ended up with a colorful outer shell filled with pithy junk. Is why I dislike ordering online.

Supply Captain has the best deal at $7 for 100 ft. The reflective & GID tracer cord is a bit more but still reasonable.

Is there a recommended hard-copy book that y'all would recommend for knot tying and para-cord weaving?

:D It's running at almost a 10 to 1 ratio on the positive 'thumbs up' :tu:(726/74), but the folks that actually take the time to rate at all are only a fraction of a percent of the total views, around 1 out of near every 600 viewers.

The one video slideshow that  folks either find useful or not is the garbage can lid tether, 18 thumbs up 17 down.  :P Every trash day I see many of my neighbors put out their garbage cans to the curb, missing their lids, like the lost sock in the dryer, it's nowhere to be found... :ahhh If only they had used paracord to save the day, lol...

That is one thing I've come to learn about bracelets, everyone does them slightly different. I love to go look at other peoples paracord work to one think of how I can improve mine or two they suck.
