My sister is getting me my first Farmer this Christmas, but this thread is making me hungry for more. I'm guessing the coloured alox versions are from limited runs at various times?

I'm pretty sure all colored ones were limited but I could be wrong. :tu:

How about a Baby Farmer....

image-link

I like it, but at the price, unlikely to ever be an EDC for me. (Yes, I have one, NIB) :-\
I thought the price was quite reasonable as far as small runs go.  I bought a couple so landed price was $57 US.  Of course $30 would have been better, but at less than $60 I'd put it in my pocket if I wanted it there.

The colored ones were limited, but some much more than others.  There were a pretty large number of Blue and Red Farmers created over the years.  Red was the standard, almost only, color for vintage Farmers and they are still available on ebay almost every week.

A newer red one went for $57 recently, blue one went for $52 (pretty good deal they often go higher).  A Vintage one with some use actually went for $30, but a mint one in bext fetched over $100, but typically they have been going for between $50-$75.

A black one with "SwissBianco" etching on the blade went unsold at $69 which is a little surprising.

So if you fancy Red or Blue you should not have too much trouble finding one.

Thanks for the info ICanFixThat. I have seen quite a few red and blue alox Farmers on my travels and you have just confirmed my suspicions about their abundance. I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for one of the less common colours though; that orange once on the first page definitely caught my eye.

I may have to hang around the For Sale section on MT.org as eBay UK doesn't allow listings of SAKs.

There's also http://edcsource.com which is run by Def and inhabited by many denizens of MTO.

Probably the best survival knife out there, but the modded one with scissors is even more survivalish imo, good to have when you are bugging out and that pesky facial hair gets in the way.

Also surprised by how cheap this fantastic knife is. I got a blue farmer i carry almost every day.

Hey Ashley,

Do you carry a Farmer?  Just curious of your thoughts about it as EDC, how it compares to other SAKs and other folders in genera.

No I don't normally EDC a farmer because I use scissors more then anything else on a sak and well it doesn't have them. Sometime soon tattoosteve is doing to do a mod for me and add scissors to one. Then it will be a perfect edc blade. I love the feel, look, and tool selection on the farmer, just miss the scissors. I really have found that I truly enjoy seeking out the rare farmers. Its become a hobby within a hobby if that makes sense. :tu:

My favorite 'new' Farmers are these limited black ones with red shield. True beauties IMO. This one has some wear on the scales that adds to its appeal:

And the top favorite Farmer of mine is one of course wrapped in old style scales, brass lined, with the heavier tools and blade:

They're all lovely. If you ever want to part ways with any of those let me know :tu:

The wear on the black scales looks great too, it's good to see them being used!
