Hiya. This is the wife. First thank you very much. Here is how I did it step by step. First 6 months only change I made was I stopped drinking soda. Only drank water. Refused to drink my calories. That’s how I lost my first 50ish pounds. Than I made lil changes. Instead of ground beef I did ground turkey or chicken. Then no more fried foods. Grilled or I air fryed. Which taste exactly the same. Just not greasy. Win win. Then I used fitness pal and ate in calories what it told me. So if I wanted a cookie I ate it as long as I stayed within my calories. Then I started walking. Realized the more exercise do the more calories I can eat. I like food so that worked wonderfully. Than a friend bought a bike for me. So now I walk at least 2 miles a day. And, bike at least 2.5 miles a day (even though the hubby says I'm killing him) I’m not he needs it lol. Now I pretty much eat what I want. If I want a slice of cake it’s e it. I just exercise more to make up for it. I’m a foodie. I knew there was no way I could give up certain foods for the rest of my life it’s just unrealistic. But, I also learned I can now have a couple cookies and not the whole package. Hope this helps. And good luck!!

once again kudos for sticking with it. i've found that counting calories, regardless of the app, gets to be a bit too much for me and turns into something unsustainable. even like that it does have a great benefit of teaching one about what are the low and high calorie foods so it is easier to make better choices

Well, no matter how funny it can be when it comes to a woman’s weight, you don’t make a joke out of it or else whoever she’s around might night be standing for long, and I don’t mean because they’ll be laughing, I mean she’ll be going :ahhh with knives! Lol,, but we got it..

And after working and trying to make my custom trike being bent over for like 5hrs, my back started getting super tight on the way home!

I'm off kettlebells and any lifting due to slight shoulder tenderness. So just yoga and spin and walking for now.
In between yoga classes I'm doing long sessions of Sun salutations,  working my way up to the magic 108.

Helps with what?

overall athletic performance, if I can call it that. weight loss will help to an extent but that is what my counting calories is for, as annoying as it is. for endurance there is hiking and cycling, soon to be supplemented with swimming.explosiveness and strength is already in progress of getting back on the former levels with gym lifts and supplemental kettlebell work.

however, I always found that something was missing and if this might help that missing part, what ever it realistically is

that sucks that you're off kettlebells. however nice going with the yoga progress

i just hate it. so i'll call it anything but that. mostly because i'm usually surrounded by people who have that "running is free" attitude. so rather than argue with dogmatic views, i'd just rather say i'm trying to be more athletic overall

I'm off kettlebells and any lifting due to slight shoulder tenderness. So just yoga and spin and walking for now.
In between yoga classes I'm doing long sessions of Sun salutations,  working my way up to the magic 108.

So quick update: The other weekend I did the 108 Sun Salutations.

Short story - I done a Yoga thing.

Long story - (pull up a chair, make a cuppa tea)

Some time ago my yoga teacher mentioned how at the end of her teacher training they completed 108 Sun Salutations, and later my other teacher mentioned the same.

I remember thinking what an unimaginable task it seemed to be. Thus confirming how dedicated (or mad) they were. Keep in mind I struggled to complete any Sun Salutations without getting breathless when I started Yoga classes two years ago.

The 108 subject came up again during a Sun Salutations workshop. We learnt more about the reasons for doing it and what it represented. In yoga there's a thing that people do to celebrate new year, solstice and equinox (also Birthdays, weddings etc) which is 108 Sun Salutations. This is not only a physical challenge but also a mental challenge.

After the course I decided to start practicing ready for summer solstice. Over the weeks I gradually ramped up the number of Sun Salutations practice in between regular classes.

So what was it like? It was quite hard work to be honest, physically and also mentally.

I try to listen to my body, I’m aware of the possibility of injury as I grow older. Modifications learnt in the workshop were used. Knees, chest, chin, baby cobra, childs pose were used at the start to warm up and when a rest was needed. In contrast hop back, jump forward (I don’t really float forward) were used when I felt more energetic. In fact at approx 2/3 way through I completed one round of 12 hopping and jumping.

What no one mentioned was the mixed emotions you go through, but then everyone’s experience may differ, that’s part of the journey.

I started slightly nervous and anxious of what was about to occur. At around a third of the way in I started to experience a sort of mild meditative state as I fell into the rhythm of the flow, this caused a pleasant sense of calm/peace (maybe caused by the repetitive rhythmic movement/ breathing?).

Towards the end followed a sense of clarity or maybe what I would deem a clear head/mind.

Strangely, rather than feeling knackered I finished feeling very uplifted and energetic.

Namaste

Example of Sun Salutation A

How are we all doing?

Last Saturday morning was spent learning the finer points of Turkish Get Ups at Unique Results gym (Chelmsford, Essex, United Kingdom). James the owner is a strong first qualified kettlebell instructor. Before visiting James asked for videos of my TGUs and he was happy with my method, surprisingly, as everything I had learnt was from the tutorials I found on youtube and IG.

We had a chat on my arrival, went through what we were going to do and then got down to it. First set was naked, …….naked meaning naked weight, no weight. James demonstrated the first get up explaining each stage as he went. I followed, and as I went through the get up James was giving verbal instructions for each stage.

Next get up with a light weight, then light and pausing for 10 seconds at each stage, then lighter weight and stopping to perform a shoulder press at each stage, then final set with James taking photos at each stage. Every time James was giving instruction and correcting any mistakes along the way, giving advice and answering my questions. I found the subtle changes to hand/feet positions made a real difference. Lots to try and remember for my future training.

James left me an open invite to go back anytime for further training, which I’ll definitely be doing. In fact we even talked about another session for my swings.

As a side note, the gym has a nice set up, spread over two modern units, no techno type machines, barbells, kettlebells, steel mace, Indian clubs.

He’s got some really heavy bells! Yes that’s a 92kg in the middle, we didn’t use that.

Me mid get up

Owner James

I'm not a member of his gym!, It was very kind of him to help me out. I made a comment on his Instagram about Turkish get ups and he offered to help me, then we found he was only 30 minutes drive away and he said it would be quicker and better to meet than write it all down. He was spot on, learnt so much in a one hour, I was worried about remembering all the points.

Put a gym in our new home! Just need to get some adjustable dumbbells, curl bar and maybe a treadmill. Also, ceiling fan can’t stay there for overhead presses.
