Here is my latest one : a Nitecore MT06 :
For which i made a kind of review (aimed at the thermal throttling 'feature' mostly)
(Image removed from quote.)
Absolutely incredible review!

One of the only times I've seen math used out of high school ;)

It's hard to think about a flashlight being "too hot" to hold. I own a Nitecore EA41 and absolutely love it. It'll eat through some AAs but I only use it on high......

Thank you,
Of course, holding it by the very tail is still ok, but it is hot enough that you cannot hold it by the head for long
This is linked to two points:
- the form factor so thin that the flashlight body doesn't have much specific surface area, which causes heat to be stored a lot more before dissipating it through air
- the XQ-E emitter is extremely small (1/4th of the surface of my LD12 XP-G2 emitter), giving the same issue: heat doesn't spread well to the light body from the emitter  :-\

--> I never experienced that kind of over heating issue on my LD12 that has a larger heat sink, and regulates current even on turbo mode (meaning that you'll get the 125lm for a while and not a constantly dropping light output)

btw, although i always use my LD12 in turbo mode (125lm), i rarely needs the MT06 to throw all its guts, the low mode (32lm) is enough for my indoor usage of it. i only miss a moonlight/firefly mode

I think you want a new AAA

:D :D

I really do love the form factor and well pretty much everything else about the AAAs but I have so many AA envelops that need to be active  :D

I've got 2, NW and CW.  Very nice light for the money and IMO really nice modes.  It's my daily carry around the house and one of 2-3 I carry when heading out as well.

Cool :D

I've wanted one for ages and never got down to buying it.

I never get to carry AA ones much  I'm currently trying to sell my Fenix E11 and Quark Mini AA to fund the future copper Tool... unless I decide not to buy one later

Fenix E20 (2015 edition) I've had it for about a month now. Nice, heavy feel in the hand, the tight beam is a good compromise for both indoors and outdoors and it seems floodier than it is. The tint is a yellow-ish silver hue which I like. There are some minor rings around the hotspot at close distance but they disappear when pointed far away.

Fenix provides some more info on the box than usual, about the beam's angles. Also, they've extended the warranty period to five years for lights made in 2015 and on. :tu:

I used to have the E25 before and as I mentioned above, as a fan of mostly AAAs, I sold the E25..................... and then regretted it, lol.

I thought the E20 was that one that's controlled by shaking/montion, but after I googled, I think it's not.

Really nice range of lumens.  Decent run times as well.  Time to watch some reviews.

I bought 2x Nitecore Tubes, and a Fenix E05 to replace one that have misplaced for several weeks.  I tried the Tube as a keychain light, but it actuated in my pocket after a couple of hours, so the Tubes will have to serve other purposes.  The E05 makes a great backup light - or primary light depending on your needs. It will run for several hours on low output, or give one hour of glory.

Looks like they've dropped that idea on the 2015 version.  Reverse tail switch, L-M-H-T sequence, mode memory.

Pretty reasonable price as well.  I'm not in the market for a 2xAA light, but if I was this would have to be in the running.

 Shouldn't you get one first, before thanking me?  :pok:         :D

I always look for lights with good low-med modes and long runtimes, the E20 is decent at both. The lowest setting is good enough for work close to something (it could become a little too bright but nothing really annoying, YMMV) and for walking through known territorry with ease, 35 lumens is quite useful for ceiling bounce use in power outages or for walking at unknown territory, the 95 and 265 lumens are good for searching. The beam is tight and quite bright, if this helps?

I like this new E20, I think it's quite versatile. There are better lights in terms of tint or maximum output out there but I like the balance of useful output settings and very good runtimes on alkalines! The E20 won't be replacing my LD22 (215 lumens) but it filled a gap in my household needs of a general use, beater 2 x AA light quite nicely. The simple, straight-forward UI also means I won't be getting these reactions -->  ??? :twak: from my wife should she need to use it during my absense.

Gareth said it all :salute:

I'll just add that there are no disco modes on this light and that it feels heavy and solid but not enough to go :twak: ing with it.

Edit: Oh, it only comes with a lanyard and 2 spare O-rings.

Dang that E20 is a great deal.

Been looking for a bigger light for in the Truck and in a drawer at the house. Added bonus I don't have to give the wife a PowerPoint presentation on how to operate it.

Will it work with l-ion batteries?

No Li-ion, only Ni-MH rechargeable cells  :-\ It can run on lithium primaries, which I like.

Meh no big deal. This light would be more for the wife and kid anyhow so bleeding edge battery tech is not really necessary.

That was exactly my reasoning and so far so good, the wife is able to use it and in fact seems to like it (the baby can't really form an opinion yet). I keep it in a drawer next to a box with 4 spare lithium primaries in it, just in case. I hate throwing unused alkalines away every couple of years.

Must upgrade to rechargeables...

Just got me an Xtar charger last month but the budget ran out before I could get some batteries.

Can't wait to get me some soon.
