And because I have no self control, I just received a jetbeam jet-u I got cheap on an 11/11 deal from AliExpress.

First impressions is that is has a nice build quality. I wish there were more threads, but it may not be a problem. Anodizing is very well done. It has a TIR similar to the e05 I just received. In this case the beam isn’t quite as smooth, but still less “ringy” than most small reflector lights.

All the diameter changes make it less deep pocket friendly to me, like it was designed to be used with the clip. Not an issue, just user preference.

Probably my most favorite thing is that there are large raised contact points in the head for both positive and negative, which should ensure you will basically never wear through a circuit board trace.

A neutral to somewhat negative thing is the mode memory. Not sure if I like it. If I carried it all the time, I’d probably use medium mostly and wouldn’t notice it much, but it just seems overly prone to getting the wrong mode that you want and potentially getting 135 lumens when you expect 1.5 I’m the middle of the night.

So far the only real negative to me is the lack of glass in front of the plastic TIR.

They are wonderful lights but I stopped buying them because they are not available in a neutral version (except for a few cases) if for each model the two tint were available they would sell much more.

I would love it if they had a more neutral tint and some in HiCri, but then that could be really bad for my wallet.

If your referring to a strobe, it doesn't have-it.  Just three-levels of brightness.  No muss, no fuss!

No, I’m not referring to a strobe.  On the Maratac I owned, there was a noticeable flicker on low.

Yeah, when it is noticeable, it gets old real fast.

Okay.  Sorry I didn't follow.  My Maratac has no faults on any of the brightness-levels.  Been a great torch.

Today I bought a Fenix CL09.
I already have two small CL05s (1 AAA battery) and I tried to buy a third one but I found out that it has been out of production for a long time, in Germany a seller still has it in stock but it would cost about 25 euros (including shipping) at this point I have decided for a CL09 on Amazon (34 euros)
It is a bit bigger and comes with a 16340 battery.
I used the CL05 as a position light (flashing red) on the backpack or held in the hand, it was useful to be seen by cars when walking in the winter afternoon.
CL09 is similar but a little bigger and powerful I hope to be happy with it as with the previous model.

Olight M2R Pro Warrior (Desert Sand). I also have a blacck one coming. The Olight sales were really good. I will do a little write up on it here.

that looks cool, I only got the free I1R2 from them, most of the sales were too much for my budget, hope you enjoy it  :like:

I mostly got some keychain stuff, a couple of Rovyvons, but backordered from battery junction so have to wait  :(

I am looking forwarding to reading your write-up.  I have one of their discontinued CL20s which I really like.

I remember the CL20 (AA battery), in the past I was going to buy it.
Now I think there is a CL20 version with a built-in lithium battery.

I bought the CL09 on Amazon and the shipment is in advance, probably they deliver it this morning and I'll be able to use it this afternoon.
If I like how the CL05 I could also buy another one.

For those who want to see the CL09 here is a video (in Russian but with good images)

Thanks for sharing the video.

The CL20 could use 1 x CR123or 2 x AA which was one thing I really liked about it.  It was replaced by the CL20R which has the built in rechargeable which in my opinion is not as nice.

I agree with this.
The old version was more versatile.
The built-in lithium battery could also be impossible to replace (or too expensive and therefore not convenient replacement)
Unfortunately this seems to have become a standard.

You know what I feel like? If you have ever seen the movie "Darkness Falls" there is a scene when the protagonist is in his Las Vegas apartment and it shows the plethora of flashlights he has to protect himself from the "witch." I feel ridiculous though...I have no witch problem...just flashlight psychosis.

Tonight I was playing with my lights, as all grown men are wont to do  when I noticed something.

I have a spare, brand new fenix ld01 and noticed that when I was changing modes one hand, it was hard to select the mode without it skipping. My old ld01 does not exhibit this behavior and neither do my new e05 or jetbeam jet-u.

My first thought was that maybe it had more play in the thread tolerances, but they all seem to be about the same going by feel.

So now my theory is that the old fenix’s negative contact ring on the pcb has worn enough to allow it to “seat” fully without needing to snug it down. I think the new lights avoid this by using raised contact “pads” instead of pcb traces for the negative contact which accomplish the same without the need for wear in, maybe

It’s interesting too that the jet-u also has a raised pad for the positive, the ld01 has A raised positive pad but not the negative and the e05 has raised pads for the negative but not the positive  :dunno:

It’s a little hard to tel in the pic, but it kind of shows it.

L-R: jet-u, e05, new ld01 with no contact wear, old ld01 with contact wear.

I have a few twistys that do this when using one handed, something about the grip makes it happen, you can probably make it change modes by pushing head in towards tail as well.

Well, today was a heapin spoonful of disappointment! I bought a Thrunite Neutron 2C on ebay and it was delivered today. I was excited because this light has the same ramping UI as my much loved Thrunite T1, but in a bit larger form. Imagine my disappointment at opening the package and finding that they sent the wrong light. It is a Thrunite TC12.  >:(

Bummed - I contacted the seller and about all I can do at this point is return the flashlight. They do not seem to have the Neutron 2C in stock, so I am going to have to get one elsewhere. The exciting thing about the Thrunite Neutron 2C is the fact that it can take so many different types of batteries or battery combos. The main tube is 2 piece so it can take a shorter battery...in fact, the Neutron can use 18650, 18350, one or two 16340's or one or two CR123A's.

Now that light is sounding pretty interesting.  Battery versatility is always a nice thing.

Looks like they actually do have a Neutron 2C in stock so I started the return procedure. Hopefully I can get the right light soon. The Neutron just seems like a light with all the features I want.

sos24,

Did you get your Gadsden Fenix PD35AC yet? The yellow Cerakote is a bit subdued with the distress paint job. It is pretty nice. I would not mind having the red and blue as well.

Congratulations Sos24, beautiful light.
It would be nice to have an NW version like they did in the past with the PD32 UE.
I have this light (standard TAC version) but I don't use it often, attached to the belt I wear TK09 2016 (XP-L Hi)

Thanks, Hevy and Stefano.

I usually prefer a more neutral tint as well.  I had been looking at the PD35 for a while and couldn’t resist this one especially after the 25% Black Friday deal.

Love this light, although I wish the SST20 5K was a little bit warmer. I think I’ll go XPL or 4K from here out. My FW3A 219c is just about perfect for me.
