Whatever you do, DON'T BUY ONE OF THESE.  You will instantly be trying to figure out how to pay for every product Malkoff sells.

You have been warned.

I have been putting off buying a Malkoff for a while, but I don't know how much longer I can last.

Once you give in, I can assure you, you won't be disappointed.  ;)  I highly recommend the high/low ring option.  I ordered the turnkey flashlight with high/low option, then bought a M61N separately to replace the stock M61.

I almost bought a Turnkey MD2 last year (during the Thanksgiving sale) but was tempted away by a Surefire Fury. I've been looking at the MDC as well but I don't really like the driver he uses in it right now. But then I do have a Surefire G2 that still has the crappy P60L unit in it, and the Malkoff M61L is on sale for $40  :ahhh

Yeah, it's a great light, but the inability to use Li-Ion is a deal breaker for me.  I'm also not a fan of lights that switch levels every time I push the button.  It kind of defeats the idea of a "tactical" momentary.

There is a li-ion version, but the low is 15lm, which is way too bright for my taste.
If there was an MDC that could take either li-ion RCR123 or regular 3v primaries and had two modes accessed by head rotation, let's say 250lm with head tightened and 3-5lm with head loosened, I'd be on it so fast it'd be crazy. I wouldn't even mind switching modes at the tail if it always came on in the same mode after a certain time OFF (like how my Surefire Backup works). But the weird thing where modes reset after it's been left ON for 2 sec does not appeal to me.

Yep.  Looks like your tastes in UI are very similar to mine.  That would be a killer light.  I especially like output selection by turning the head, because the output can be set before the light is turned on.

Yeah, that's how my (on its way) Foursevens QTLC will work, but it'd be so much better if it were a Malkoff.

I frequently carry a Quark Tactical 1xAA (w/neutral XP-E) when armed.  I own three in total, with various bodies (1xCR123, 2xAA, 18650).  They're great, and I would buy more if David would make neutral tints available again.

Aww smurf. I just bought an M61L HCRI2 from IS, $34 was just too good to pass up.

Uh-oh!

I'm actually going to place another order at Malkoff today also.  I almost pulled the trigger on an HCRI2 at IS, but decided that 2900K is a little warm for my tastes.

Let us know how you like it when it arrives!  :mail:

I've been considering an Olight myself. These days, I've come to actually appreciate a lower lumen light because it's possible to be too bright on some of these flame throwers. The i3s has everything I like on a light along with an extremely fair price tag. I also love AAA batteries as they are ones I most commonly stock.

Thanks guys! The i3s is indeed an awesome little flashlight. I'm curious about the Preon, though, as I've seen lots of negativish reviews online.

I currently have a 47's MLR2 on my keyring. It uses the CR2 battery which is slightly smaller than a CR123. Not widely but somewhat available in some local stores. I kind of compare CR2 vs CR123 like AAA vs AA.

Just received my M61L HCRI2 today! (Well, technically it arrived yesterday but I didn't have a chance to open it.) Love it so far. The tint is a near perfect match for my 4D incan Maglite, only without all of the black spots floating around
If you love the cheery yellow hue of an incan light then this is definitely the dropin for you.

It's on the warm side for my tastes, but I'm glad you like it.  What I love about the Malkoff dropins for is the fantastic beam profile, with very smooth transition from spot to spill.  It's as good as a general-purpose beam gets, IMO.

I have 2 neutral-tint (4000K) Malkoff dropins now, and I love them as well.  (M61N and M61NL).

I also just bought a neutral (5000K) Malkoff Hound Dog, and it also has a great beam profile.  Unfortunately, the XM-L has the tint separation that exists in every XM-L I've seen (white spot, greenish corona & purplish spill), but it isn't noticeable in outdoor use.

Olight i3S, Preon P0 SS, ATOM LE Titanium.  I've had these in a cart like forever and decided to pull the trigger.  I keep saying I want more AA lights but keep getting AAA ones .

Sunwayman D40a in cool white. Was unsure when I ordered it but the interface and build quality have won me over. Until this, I was set on 18650's but this is making me think again about AA flashlights.

I use both cells regularly, but I tend to carry AA (with 14500 Li-Ion) more, just because of the compact size.  I usually have an 18650 in a bag or briefcase as a backup though, for the great runtime.
