I was thinking about the first time I met my friend Tony. I was working in my father-in-law's shop (yes, I married the boss's daughter...), and Tony walked in and said "I need some new wings for my car", my boss looked at him like he was from Mars. When my boss asked him what he was talking about he said "You know wings, wings on either side of the bonnet" while making hand gestures. He then had to take him out to the car to show him what he was talking about.  :)

Good memory.

Anyway, Sparky's gifts are on the way, and I'm sure he will post some pictures when they get there  :pok: :D

Hey Paul,

This might make you the second most famous person from Hawthorne, CA!

Is the place where you lived in Hawthorne still standing?  The 105 Freeway sure wiped out a lot of housing in Hawthorne.

Hi Bruce,

I was south of the 105, down by Rosecrans. When I was there in '88 it was still standing, but I just took a quick look at the satellite photos, and it looks like it is a shopping center now... :(

I didn't think it would last, when I grew up it was all homes, and multiplexes in the neighborhood. But when I was back there in '88 my friend Gary's house across the street had become a high security apartment building, and downtown was pretty much abandoned.

Everything changes I guess. It does seem by the satellite photos that it is thriving a lot more then 20 some years ago. Hopefully for the good...
