Good to see the folks at Wenger paying respect to their rich history. From what I've been told those old soldiers were real workhorses.  :)

Well you can see how solid this 60+ year old model is:

50 Years of Progress

The reissues will be made with a more modern steel though.

It'll be interesting to see who snaps them up first;the SAK nuts or the SASS/cowboy re-enactor crowd.

The what? I looked up "SASS", but I don't think any of the expanded acronyms I found apply.

Posted this same question over at SOSAK:

How long has it been since Wenger last used the old style can opener?

I can't say for sure about Wenger (part of the Wenger factory burned down in '86 and most of their records were lost) but Victorinox started using the new style can opener in the early 60's.  I would imagine Wenger started their own design around the same time, but bear in mind that the Standard Issue (aka Soldat) is the only Wenger to have that style can opener.

I like the Schofield's but I gotta go with the Peacemaker. To me it's the most natural pointing gun I've ever heald. The only single action wheelgun I own right now is a NAA 22mag mini-revolver. Wonderful little gun but pretty useless past card table distance.

Of course it's all for moot now since my eyesight went craps.  :-\

Did you ever handle a Bisley? What do you think of the NAA's? I've been thinking of one to tuck in my jersye pocket when riding weather comes back, feral dogs and other varmints,2 and 4 legged, not to mention slithering things are becoming more prevalent hereabouts in these parts.

Wenger has me on the dealer list to get some but, as Def says, don't hold your breath as to when the will actually show up.

Actually quite good once you get the hang of it.

Funnily enough, up until the 90s, that was a "standard" style of a can opener in the Soviet Union! It does work well, after you get it started, which we did by banging on the opposite end of the handle with an open palm.
