Tool logic SL3

Ive just odered one of these, was pretty cheap at under£20 and fancied having one in the bottom of my backpack save me carrying my firesteel and whistle  seems a pretty cool idea for a now and then type of knife combo tool  pics when it arrives, here is a review i found

 SL3 is equipped with some really great features. The magnesium alloy fire starter is a genuine high quality firesteel produced by Swedish manufacturer Light My Fire. The firesteel securely snaps in and out of place thanks to the 2 o-rings around the liner. This fire starter will produce a mass of sparks even when wet. Works great! If you want to make the tool lighter or have no need for the firesteel you can simply detach it and put it aside.

The SL3 has a super tough Zytel frame. For those who have never heard of Zytel it is an extremely durable new generation polymer that has a great balance of toughness and mechanical strength. It offers very good resistance to abrasion, electricity, corrosive chemicals and has a high melting point.

The blade is machined out of 420 J2 stainless steel. This type of steel has a high level of strength and relatively high impact resistance. It is also resistant to corrosion from oil, blood, detergents, water, food acids and many petroleum based products. The blade has a thumb opening hole and firesteel striker machined into it.

I have to say the blade arrived quite dull but I sharpened it up with little effort. One problem with the Tool Logic SL3 is that it doesn't have a very solid feel to it. I get the feeling when using it that I can't be too abusive on it or it may snap! Overall I find the SL3 is a good tool for the price, a firesteel - knife combo is a great idea and I hope to see more tools like this coming out soon.

I now remember where i saw one before    great pics mate, what are your thoughts on it, mine was the version with the fire steel as there is one with a torch as well but this one had more extras so seemed good value for money and wanted more of a outdoors back up tool

Very sharp blade (although I'm not a CE fan), tight lock, but occasionally the lock is fiddly.

Very bright light, but camera battery powered.

Firesteel works great and there's an integrated striker on the knife handle. 

The whistle works but is kind of silly.

Overall, a very good knife and would be an excellent backup camping tool.

cheers mate  for the money it seems ok, i had to juggle what i needed more a torch or a strike and decided on the strike, on this one you strike it on the lower part of the blade where there is a purpose made groove, it seems to work ok in the vid, im looking forward to this one as another tool ive wanted to try for a while

I just read that a Mag-Lite Solitaire fits where the steel goes so handy alternative

     i forgot you get a compass as well  ive already got a couple but nice to have one more, all this for under £20 posted, the knife seems a nice lightweight knife and all seems to function well, ill give it a testing asap

And not as flimsy as i thought it would be , it reminds me of something they would use in Stargate  im going to look on there site as it says there is ascesories to go with it so i might be able to pick up the torch as well

Well chucked it in my backpack and went off to work last night, added the light as thought better than a lanyard, really liking this knife

These aren't bad knives actually and well worth the money , a friend has one as a beater and he gets on ok with it .

They have got steel liners i noticed and play not too bad unless you go mad with it, for me its a back up tool so fits the size weight and functions perfectly

Well the saw works well enough on damp wood and seems fine, as for the steel it striked first time and light up the cotton wool straight away

   i like testing stuff and getting some use out of it, recently ive got a little bored of my stuff so decided to change stuff around and try different gear, also sticking to my budget, ive no use for stuff hanging around ,it needs to be handy

i no exactly what you mean. i don't have a load of money to play with every month but there's always loads of tools and bits i want so i try to buy the things that are going to be of most use to me. like recently i got my supertool 300 because i no ill get a lot of use out of it compared to a MUT (which is also on my wishlist). i want a MUT but it isnt going to be as useful as a supertool will be.

The st300 is a great solid tool mate, ive got a st300,wave,pst and a original ST my most used is the old ST but as sadly im getting dare i say it bored of using the same style of MT im trying out much different gear including seperat bit drivers as i get frustrated with MT's drivers sometimes, i love trying out new stuff and as of late its all got a little stale so this stuff keeps me going 

This is the more recent stuff ive got , some given like the tinker from jerseydevil and some i got recently and some things ive had for ages like the bit driver, all in my new set up

i have one of those bit driver pens in my bag there handy. and i also got myself a tinker as its a good tool selection for me i think. im not a fan of SAKs with corkscrews as i dont drink wine. i find a Phillips head much more useful.

yep corkscrews are so french  no good for opening a can of guinness

lol i agree. corkscrews arnt bad at undoing knots but other than that i dont like having them.

or for carrying the little extra glasses driver  but not ever used one on a SAK,

its a larger bit driver, i use allsorts on it even sockets and allen bits, very handy
