Favorite Lightweight Folder
on: January 02, 2012, 09:12:40 PM
Whenever I carry a full sized MT I like to keep a light folder in my pocket for one hand access. Usually a Leatherman Crater, but lately I've been favoring the Kershaw Chill. A very inexpensive, serviceable knife, with a simple, trouble free design. I was just wondering what else everyone uses in the 2 to 3 ounce (57-85 gram) range?

Anyone have any higher priced folders around that weight?

IDK the weight but my BM opportunist is quite light and such a dressy folder.

for light weight i like my VIC solo. its a good size and very light plus a good every day beater as its cheap to replace. not the tuffest knife but great for its size and weight.

SRM 763 (Solid, light, comes with a bottle opener),  SRM HO2 (Slipjoint) or Cold steel kudu (Very light for the size of the blade)

I do not have any weight details available but they are all quite light

2-3 ounces is lightweight now?

I regularly carry a Dragonfly 2 or an SRM 763 with the clip taken off.  They both make it under that limit.

G10 scaled UKPK... certainly don't notice the weight of it much and it's my most carried knife over all.

2-3 ounces is lightweight now?

If that's the case, benchmade 940, or a delica...
(i really love the delica!)

They're great knives, but not especially granny friendly. You'd still want to have you're Opinel #4 or classic to hand for anywhere "public"

My Benchmade 470 Emissary weighs in at 2.2 oz. Love that knife. With the axis lock & S30V its tough to beat! Retails for $170+ but someone on Amazon had one for $78 so I had to snag it.

What's a knife thread without pictures?

Here is the Kershaw Chill next to the Leatherman C33L. Notice the slim profile on the Chill, it really stays out of the way when clipped in your pocket:

And the Chill next to a Wave blade, very similar size and shape:

Here is a Duane review of the Chill where he demonstrates that he does not know how to use a blade flipper (creepy moment at 2:35 where it appears another personality surfaces momentarily)

"One day it hit me. I was at work, thinking about the flow of the work I was doing, when a little voice in my head said to me, “You have to go with the flow, don’t paddle against the current!”" ~ Duane Myers, Duane's World Blog

I need to get one period! I really really want the green handle in S30V. Such a good looking knife. Handled it at the local shop....know for sure it would find a spot in my pocket.

The opening is very smooth, I fell in love with it at the shop. Wife would have slashed me up with it if I bought it on credit tho :)

I'm actually talking to Luke about another, he has all the 940, 941, 942, and 943. All of them. Limited editions and all. His collection makes me

CRKT Kiss  :salute:
Speaking of Kiss, I picked up this one about 10 years ago. Cute little thing, unusual design, not something for heavy use, doesn't hold well in my hand when deployed, but I use it for a money clip every now and then:

the skyline has a g-10 handle ...its super light and gives you a blade a little over 3"
also another nice g-10 by kershaw is the zing.

Ooops  ::) mine is a 'Samsons KISS' a little bit bigger than yours with a Tanto blade
I don't often carry a dedicated knife as I have a SAK in my pocket but I do love this one, its a smooth and clever lightweight folder  :tu:

The Kiss Is Definitely An Interesting Knife, But I Never Really Had Much Interest In It. The CRKT Drifter Or CRKT Pazoda Are Two Good Light Weight Folding Knives By CRKT.
