H502 MONSTER Folder
on: January 03, 2012, 02:29:03 AM
I just made a trade for a "like new" LM H502 knife w/ sheath.

It was much larger than I expected it to be, and I am VERY HAPPY about it!
I mean this thing has a beast blade (420HC), bit driver with three two sided bits (two of which are stored in the handle), a can opener, and an AWESOME retractable carabiner/bottle opener!!!!!!
And the blade is a LOCKBACK (I love lockbacks)!
I am 110% satisfied with my new MONSTER knife.
Anyone else have any experiences with it or one similar?

This is a great underdog knife.  It's a big honking, no nonsense knife that isn't for everyone.  When you use it and realize it will not just take the abuse but revel in it, you can't help but appreciate it.

I love mine, plus I have a backup still in the packaging just in case!

+1... I loved to get my hands on this.. But not sure it will get thru customs though :P
Even LM limited editions like SLV packaged folder is just' passed as its less intimidating.. Had seen goodly priced  in fleby NIP.
would be glad if it could be pictured next to a Fuse/Surge for comparison..thanks.

Closest I have is the e55bx, I think their size is similar? Looks like a keeper.

I know my 55 will take a lickin & keep on tickin. Very strong American made blade.

I have a Leatherman H503 which is too heavy to EDC so it stays in the basement and used for various unglamorous cutting chores.  The handle is grippy and very large for the size blade so it is easy to hold while cutting.

I've noticed that the bits can fall out of the handle easily so I keep them elsewhere.   Despite a good coat of oil, rust spots appeared on the blade when the basement was humid (due to a week long air conditioner failure).  Light rubbing with steel wool removed the rust spots.

Here's the pics of my new H502 (sorry the pics aren't very good quality)

I posted the H502 along side the smaller C33 model knife.... it almost dwarfs it, hahahaa...

The e55Bx is next on my list of LM knives.... the e55Bx is actually slightly heavier than the h502.... about 0.17 ounces heavier.
You've definitely got yourself a sweet knife!  :tu:

I like mine, they are quite the monster. A few use pointers:
  • The bit holder is non locking, so if attention is not paid while in use, it can lead to bruised knuckles (not that I ever did that :-[)
  • parnass is correct, the rubber in the handle will wear if you take the bits in and out a lot, and will lose retention
  • The can opener works really well for it's odd shape, one consideration though, with the thickness of the handle scales, and depending on the rim of the can, a can might dig into the rubberized portion of the scales and leave a mark. Doesn't effect usability, just something to consider

What models would that be?  I have a 503 and many others but am always looking for something new.

Klamath/Nehalem, they have been discontinued though so finding one may be difficult.
