Hello from Southeast Asia
on: January 15, 2008, 03:47:21 AM
Hi all,

thought I'd introduce myself. Been lurking on this forum for a while, just haven't registered or posted anything. Probably a bit of inferiority complex seeing how you guys have all the coolest tools and such. Personally, I only have a Micra and a Wenger SAK. The Micra is the only one I use regularly now because it's on my keychain.

A bit about staying in Singapore: it's hard to get the latest tools. There isn't much interest in them because the whole country's urban, so there are fewer outdoorsy kinds to present a viable market to retailers. Now, I'm not the crazy woodsman character myself, but I like tools because they come in useful in everyday situations. The Micra sells here for Singapore $55, which is about USD$38. Though that isn't far off from the recommended price, it's way off the about-US$20 online price. I bought mine online, and even with shipping from the US, I got it cheaper than the stores. That's why I'm always on the lookout for online sites which ship internationally, rather than get ripped off over here. Not to mention the range of products in Singapore in horrible.

Ok, enough of ranting. Love the spirit on this forum, hope to participate more soon.

Welcome!

There are a few people I know of who do international forwarding of items if you ever decide to go that route. Last time I checked their fees were reasonable, let me know, I'll dig up the information and send it over.

Glad to see the site is going truly international! Sit down read some of the drivel we've posted and then add some of your own!

Nice to have you- as a silly foreigner myself, I always insist that dealers be amenable to shipping outside of the US.  Since I own the site, I only allow international minded dealers to advertise here.

Singapore is on my list of places to visit- it sounds like a beautiful country!

Does US Freight really have that big a deal with going through a gate in a fence to brave the perils of Canada?

(ooo noo, it's ah ca-nay-dee-ahn, he's got syrup and bacon! Watch oot!)
Speaking of Cah-Nah-Dah. At the Sydney APEC slumber party, the iron fisted dictator of the frozen north was the only one that seemed to actually like our silly coats, and by several accounts, insisted on wearing the Akubra beyond what was demanded by photo-ops.

You'd be surprised... It takes less time for packages to get to/from Europe than it does for anything to get to/from the US.
