Pipe Tomahawks.
on: January 07, 2012, 06:49:50 PM
I was shopping around yesterday for something completely unrelated when I spied this shop that I had never been in before. Not surprising as the back half was taken up with every known and possibly unknown drug paraphernalia out there...a lot of which I had no clue on its use. I quickly went through that area least one of my students saw me and jumped to some wrong and unwanted conclusions.

However, as I am walking away, i spy on the wall a handful of decorative tomahawks. They were cheap and cheerful and I thought it could be a nice little addition to the swords etc.

I called the woman over and true enough, these are useable pipe tomahawks...which explains why they were in the recreational drug paraphernalia section. I noticed they are cheaply decorated, but the  blades were rather sharp...which was surprising. Balance seemed ok, even though I am no expert on the historical accuracy, I would wager not that historically accurate...but they would look good on a wall.

No I don't smoke...so these will strictly be wall Queens. I do know where this will lead me however. I will probably end up doing some research and try to acquire more historically accurate examples, and eventually replace these. Yeah, that is what happened with me and the swords. The historic accuracy is important to me as I do like history. For now, I find these neat. :D

I've never seen such a think. Historically when and where (by whom) would the originals been used, have you any idea?

Carlos, Pipe Tomahawks are purely a North American thing. Mostly produced by the French and English as gifts to the First Nations during times of the fur trade era. As for the time, anywhere from the 1700's and up.
