Ultrasonic cleaners. Usefull? which ones?
on: January 12, 2012, 12:27:26 PM
I have been thinking about considering the possibility of looking into maybe getting an Ultrasonic cleaner.

I see some battery powered ones on eBay with low vibrating frequencies and there are also some mains operated ones (on eBay and some shops) with one or two working frequencies, between 40 to 50 kHz

Are they any good?

Can they clean multitools and knives well?

Do I need two oscillating frequencies?

Do they work with just water?

I do not want to spend more than $40 or 30 Euro

I have a fairly cheap model that plugs in. It only has one frequency, and yes, it does work well with just water.

Any of these will be better than not having one at all. You can get a more industrial one with heaters, etc...and I guess those would be better. but I am quite content with my simple jewelry cleaner. It does a great job at cleaning in those hard to get places.
A little Leatherman information.

Thank you.
What frequency does it work at?

What results do you get? does it clean totally (oil, mud, paint), or does it just give a polished look to a basically clean tool?

So, I got one from LIDL for 27Euro.
600ml basket, selectable times, 50W power and 46kHz operating frequency.BLUE LIGHT!!!!!

I have cleaned, using water, an LM Micra (99 USA) and some knives, cutters etc.
Works fine, cleans the deposits well, though it does not remove stuck on rust or resins.
Maybe if I add some washing up liquid, as sugested for the removal of heavier oily stains it will be better.

After I finished I did another self-clean cycle to clean the cleaner.

Don't forget that, according to the Gundam universe, painting something red (more or less) makes it three times as fast. XD
