on: January 17, 2008, 03:28:57 AM
If I remember my map skills from highschool and college Virginia where Calvin lives is 6 states below me. How long do you guys think it will take for a package he sent out today (priority mail) to get to me in Mass? I think I will get it Friday or Saturday not sure though..

Closer geographical location isn't always a guarantee of quicker delivery. On another board I hang out at a guy from Florida and me won a jar of cactus jelly from the board admin. The admin lives in Texas, I live in Missouri. You'd would assume that the guy in Missouri would receive something from TX faster than the guy in Florida but he actually got his package a day or two before me.

USPS is a lot better than UPS.  The USPS leaves your packages.  UPS Just drives away with them and sends them back where they came. :)

This depends upon the UPS driver and the territory. If he feels the item(s) can be left safely without being stolen he can do a driver release and leave them at your premise. If there's no answer at the door my driver leaves my packages on my front steps unless a signature is required. I've never had a package stolen yet. USPS Priority Mail isn't always 3-4 days. I should know; I worked for the USPS for 3.5 years to pay my way thru school. If I'm getting something sent USPS Priority Mail I always expect the package in 4-5 days. As Ducktapehero said, having a close send/receive address doesn't mean you'll get it faster with USPS. I also dislike USPS' tracking. Looking up yuor # online might get you something stating the package has been sent, but don't expect anything further until the mailperson drops the package at your house and indicates this in his palmPC. Then you'll be glad to know where your package is at that point. Friggin' useless IMO. UPS' tracking blows USPS' away.

It says the status will be determined in the evening-is there a time that it usually updates?

It seems to update in the afternoon. I checked on your package just a few minutes ago and it says the same thing as earlier. You may very well receive it before you get another update!

When I sent Benners package to the UK there was a new update every late afternoon. I have to agree with Splat as far as tracking goes, UPS is way better than USPS, but UPS doesn't deliver on Saturdays.
