SHOT 2012 hasn't been all fun and games

I'd like to take a moment to let you all know the bad news about SHOT this year. It seems we've lost perhaps the biggest star of the show- my light tent.

At some point today the small strap holding my light tent to my bag must have torn and the tent was lost. All the great pictures we have this year are the result of the tent I had- if you remember photos from previous shows then you know that the light at these shows is awful, and the glare on most of the knives and tools obscures a lot of the details- look at the initial photos at Leatherman and Gerber compared to the real photos we took later on. What's the difference? Light tent.

While we have more photos coming (there's still lots of photos and info to regurgitate) please remember my poor fallen comrade, and try to appreciate the photos in it's memory.

Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to cruise eBay for a replacement....

Bummer boss!!! I hate when stuff like that happens. I'm sure the rest of the pics will do just fine in the mean time, we are just grateful to have them.

Nooo! Tenty is gone!? Old Tenty was a good friend indeed, he/she will be missed. Really your too hard on yourself Def the pics you've been taking on the fly are still great! Although Tentys pics were nothing short of spectacular...

Ohhhh Nooooo! Not the broken strap - dropped tent thing! But we are sorry you lost such a useful photography tool at such a time as the annual Shot Show of all places. Might it be in the lost and found?

In any case, we're all looking forward to your pictures regardless of the glare or lack of good lighting, etc... I'm sure the pics will be just fine.

Basically I went on eBay and took the cheapest one I could find.... in this case I actually went with the second cheapest I could find because it was a few inches bigger and I thought that might come in handy. Here's what I got:

Bear and Les have an entourage of flunkies to take them to the booths they need to be at! I doubt Bob or I would need a map if dropped in the desert or jungle, but SHOT is confusing!

you mean that Les doesn't do five days of talks, navigate himself around, sign random bits of paper, build a fire, strip the nearest booth for handy bits of wire armed only with a MT, while doing a piece to camera, all by himself?

We had the opportunity to meet them, but we chose to use our time trying to get as much information as possible rather than standing in long lineups. It was the same thing with the Gunny- I got sick of waiting in line so I moved on.

I did see Lou Ferrigno, but he seemed a little annoyed at being asked for a photo so I didn't get one. My guess is it was a long show for him too.

I had heard that as well, but then I'd also heard that he was just the opposite too. Do a Google Search for "Lou Ferrigno @$$hole" (use real letters, not our happy forum representations) and you'll see that he has a significant number of detractors as well.

Like anyone else I assume he has good days and bad days, and after four days of being on display at SHOT I can imagine anyone would be kind of testy. I hold no grudge against him for it- yes I feel he could have been a bit more polite, but then if he was me then I probably wouldn't be so interested in getting a photo with him!

I did....
....so I assume the problem he had was that you did not pay to have your picture taken with him.
What was he endorsing anyway? I have not kept up with the whole BB scene lately.

I have no idea who he was there for- he was just walking down the aisle when I spotted him. Some celebrities are there for specific companies, others just show up to wander around because the subject matter interests them. While they may not fit the official criteria for the show I'm sure the organizers are happy to allow them acces simply because people like me will try to get pictures with them and tell the world how cool the show is because there are famous people everywhere!
