A liner or frame lock 93 is still on my To-Do list.

 maybe I could kill three birds with one stone and make a Damascus bladed, OHO, Liner locked 93mm Alox...

Here are some more fit up pics of the progress for today.  I think it will work out perfect.

I checked the scrap pile and found a nice thick piece of Ti to use for the cam part.  Its not shaped yet, I just jeweler sawed a piece out, but it seems like it will be just fine.  Keep in mind all these are just rough cut right now.  Once I know the mechanism works I will sand and finish it all nice.  The TI cam I'll carbidize if it needs it, but in this case a 'sticky' fit might be an asset.

I cut it out with a jewelers saw, but I made it flat with a sander.  :tu:  It took a few blades to cut that small piece since it's 0.225 thick.

As well as "sticky" you might want to give it a tiny bit of "overcenter" locking on the cam to help prevent unwanted unlocking.

D'oh, that makes sense :)

If I tried, I'm sure I'd break more than a few.  I'm surprised how long the edges on mine last, but the slightest wrong twist and they snap very easy.

Boyo17 mentioned here filing the springs to get a certain radius clearance.  I wonder if that was for something like the "overcenter" cam to work.  Filing down since the backsprings aren't flat.

What surprised me most was how the material effects blade life.  To give you an idea, when I cut out liners I can cut about 10 from brass with one saw blade, and with Ti, it takes me about 5 saw blades per liner. :D  Aluminum is the easiest to cut, I can probably cut out 20 or more with one blade.

Very cool. I am not sure i get the idea though. Is the cam to prevent the spring from moving?  A video of the mechanism in action would be most interesting?  How about the wenger licking mechanism. It is rather neat as well.

Yes, it prevents the spring from moving up, and therefore, locks the knife in position.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Makes sense.  I can do quite a bit of cutting in silver before one gets dulls.  Copper dulls it a bit quicker.

Usually, though, I break them before they dull trying to cut intricate patterns.  I'll twist it a little bit the wrong way and TWANG   You'd think I'd learn to do it the right way  ::)

Here's a regular old pioneer tool layout, dressed in white, with a black liner and screws.

Wow the white/black look was very popular.  I sold all the white scales I had made up (only did 5 sets), so I'm prepping a larger batch to send down for the magic white coating.  I think the white scales / black tools trial was a success and it will be something I regularly offer in a mod now.

Now the other thought I had was what to do with all the 91mm blade and opener layers from the donor climbers I have. I was getting climbers for 20 bucks or so and just using the scissors out of them, but then I have the rest as brand new parts just not too exciting to do much with.

I dont think selling spartans or tinkers on their own is very exciting to anyone.  But then I thought I could toss in those stainless parts in a BO run and also hard anodize the regular Al liners, so I could then have 10 new spartans with black tool layers and liners.  The cost to make them would be very small, but they might be somewhat interesting at least, and I could price them reasonably.  I suppose if noone wanted them though I could just give them away with mods I do as a little perk as well.

Anyways.. I think that's what the next experiment will be. :D

...... hard anodize the regular Al liners.......

Brass coloured anodized Al liners maybe??? It would be a lot cheaper then actually cutting and using brass but would give it a feeling of quality. Failing that I would say red liners with BO tools.

Oh good point actually, red liners would match the stock scales nicely.

You didn't mention springs but I guess they would need to be BO too. If postage is good then I am in for a tinker, been thinking I need a philips.
