I don't get why he said it was too big/heavy for EDC. I'd happily carry that beautiful beast!  :tu:

thank you very much to both appreciate the help

it is true, I had not noticed before ... thanks for warning

a general question you can find tools and shells individually?
or the only way is to buy several knives to retrieve tools and parts?

Yes, the only option is to buy several knives and get the tools you need from them. One of the reasons why custom work is expensive.

Also, welcome to the forum. :waving:

Thanks mate.

My first problem, I can't find pivot barrel here,  can anyone help me to find it (I need to buy in Europe, because shipping from usa it's a nightmare... )

Every help is appreciate.

You should ask in the wanted section if anyone is willing to forward some pivots/barrels your way - I have yet to find a European Mailorder that carries a sufficient selection of Knifeparts.

Well the surgery was successful.  It took longer than I figured, about 4 hours all in.  I used to just hold them on my grinder and grind off most of the back liners and bushings and take them apart in a few minutes, but now I want to save the bushings and liners so I drill them out and gently tap them apart.

Here they are all naked.

I didnt damage any bushings, so I have all 150.. well I should say 149.  One was missing a bushing from the factory on the inside pin.  This is the second time Ive discovered a missing bushing.

And here are the money parts.  Scissors and combo tools!  Ive done very few mods that didnt have scissors.  Everyone loves Vic scissors.

If you want I can hook you up with a modding kit.  You need pivots and also a carbide bit for the holes.  You must have a drill press though, it's a requirement to use the bits I have.  Ive been using ball nose carbide milling bits to drill the holes, and the parts must be clamped and drilled at precise perpendicular angles, with plenty of oil.  The bits are $10 each, and the pivots with screws are $2 each.   International shipping for that would be $6.

Cheers,
Robert

I can only second that - He is an outstanding craftsman - If not by trade so at least by passion - and a really nice guy.
He sent me some Pivots and 2 drill bits a while back and I finally have an old Alox knife to try them on...

I thank you very much for your very kind offer,

I appreciate that the problem is the shipping .. if you send from canada may never come!

I'm having big problems with the Italian customs.

I already have the drill press (the tips I own are in millimeters not inches, so if the pivot are in inches should I look for a tip from 1/8)
however I can see some pictures of the tools that I've described to understand better?

thank you very much

Any 1/8 carbide bit will work.  These are what I have been using.

I figured on your side of the ocean imperial sizes would be hard to come by.   Ive sent 2 things to italy before and they made it.  But I always asked the reciever if they had any problems getting packages and both said no issues.  Do you have lots of issues with packages not showing up?

I just ordered another 200 pivots today, so I will have lots on hand.   I get them at a decent rate with a big order, even though shipping is still alot for me, still $32 to ship those to Canada.

Next on the bench is another deployment of the fat 154cm blades I had made up.

I was trying a fit up with the phillips/opener layer, and scissors.  It works but the cap lifter nail nick is pretty much blocked.  I might just go with the standard opener layer on one side and scissors on the other.  That would still leave a pretty decent EDC super SAK.

Its funny, when I first got these blades, the sheepsfoot style was my least favorite.  Now I think its just awesome and wish I had more.  Its so nice and easy to pinch grip it open, and it makes a significant snap noise since its so wide and heavy.

Stay tuned! :D

Well I had to do my least favorite task this week.. liner making.  When you want to add layers to alox SAKs it becomes a necessary evil as I buy pioneer and add layers, I would always be short one stock liner if I didnt make my own.

I took a few pics along the way but my process hasnt changed much since the begining except now I use my mill to rough out the liners instead of a sander.

The steps are
1.  Trace liner outlines on 1 sq foot of material
2.  Drill all holes.
3.  Cut out liners with jewlers saw, very rough, just to separate them
4.  Make a liner sandwich of 20 and clamp in vice and use mill to remove most of the material
5.  Make liner sandwich with stock liners and 6 rough liners and use router to finish edges
6.  Polish and enjoy, or anodize. :D

I have about 4 solid days into making about 40 brass and 40 aluminum liners.  This will keep me going for awhile though.  The aluminum will get polished and sent for hard anodize and the brass will get polished as they get used.
