I've used Ti sheet for a linerlock and it's still going as good as the day it was made. Not that there is any number of thousand cycles on it... hundreds maybe.

I think it should work.  Most of the info I found by googling was just speculation on slipjoint use. I couldnt find any info on anyone who actually tried it.

I figure I might have to adjust the thickness though of the arms of the spring.  I have a feeling if I copy the exact profile of the stock spring that it will be on the stiff side.

I got a second Ti custom together yesterday.  :D  Identical except the liners are more purple than blue.

Blurple seems about right!

I was going to make up a chart of voltage vs color for my setup, but it varies depending on parts size slightly, so its not exactly the same voltage per color each time.  Which is probably why they say to rack all parts at once that you want the same color.

Ti anodizing feels like cheating compared to Al anodizing.. but I see why its so popular.  Very easy to do at home and no nasty chemicals.  The electrolyte is detergent in water, and other than that you need electricity.  It is somewhat high voltage and high amps (enough to kill if it went through the heart) but common sense safety is all that's needed.

I've got some Ti scales from a charge TTi coming in for a bit of color.  Im curious to try that cast Ti vs the grade 5 alloy.  Tofty got his blue so I know it's possible.  :D

9v batteries, alligator clips and coca cola is all you need.  Your method is more predictable but for the cheapskate like myself, perfect.

The only thing to keep in mind about that is that if you are crazy enough to try up to 100 Volts to get green, that is not grounded. So be careful.  :D  Also its hader to get constant color over a larger part if you dont have regulated voltage as more amps are drawn at the start of the process, and less at the end as the oxide builds up.

But yep its the same principle.  You can pretty much use any liquid with a dissovled electroyte since its the water that does the work.  Oxygen from water making Ti-oxide, and h2 gas released.

So, could you get the scales to be pretty blue like that, as well?

Nice Peter!

What Ive been wondering is.. that tumbled finish I did, its still Ti on the surface, I wonder if it would anodize.   If I tumbled it something sharp first it would expose fresh Ti metal and getting that blue or purple might look nice too.

Lots to experiment with anyhow.  :D

If you can get a nice all-blue anodized TI Phioneer, I think I'll have to put another order in with you...

Do you have titanium pocket clips for this yet?

Most of the knife parts places I order from sell Ti clips.  I was going to pick some up next time I order and give those a try.

My waterjet brass liners were finally done!  That was much faster than cutting them by hand with a jewelers saw! :D

They still need edge finishing and polishing but that part is much easier than cutting them out.

After Cutting out some 93mm brass-liners myself I was a bit stunned by the work, that needed to be done!

Yes last time I made liners I think I was able to cut 56 out of 1 square foot by hand, but that took SOOOOO long I just couldn't bring myself to do that again.  :D  So waterjetting is the way to go.  Next time I'll commit more material now that I now the file is ok.

Here's todays mod project and its something simple yet different.

Pioneer + phillips with can opener ground into a technician screwdriver.  :D

This seemed very straight forward but there was one catch.  Normally I have a scissors layer in between the blade and openers, but when the triple tool layer is adjacent to the blade layer there is a problem.  The slope of the blade matches exactly that of the bottle opener and can opener.  This makes the bottle opener nail nick inaccessible.

So, what I did was to custom grind a spring to be just a little raised on the part where the bottle opener contacts.  This let it sit just a touch higher than normal in closed position and the nail nick is easily accessible.   :tu:

When I cut brass liners I use a pair of shears for the "outside" edges, and a Klein Nibbler to rough out the "inside" edges. Goes quite quickly, at least for the bulk metal removal. Still use a Dremel and a belt sander to finish with.

This method is pretty fast, but I still wouldn't want to make more than about 4 liners this way. And the thicker I choose to make the liners, the harder/longer it becomes.

I was curious how those matte gray Ti scales would anodize so I gave it a try today.  Turns out they anodize just fine, so that gives me more options for Ti color and finish combos.

I also finally got some of the etchant that Im supposed to use to get the brighter colors, so I need to try that next to hopefully get to that nice green color.
