Syph - I don't recall seeing any pics of a 91mm with the small blade, electricians blade, or hawk bill blade opposite an opener. Is this doable, or is it unique to the 93mm platform?

Nope those don't fit the modern opener spring, its very specific to the tools its used for.  It would be possible to put those blades in place of the normal small blade though.

Thanks, man. After reading your response, I think you actually answered this for me before a few pages back  :D

Does anyone know if looking for scissors with no hook would be a good indicator that a 91mm uses the old opener spring. Just curious.

Probably but im not sure.  Easy to tell by looking at the keyrings though.  Thoae old springs dont have a keyring loop like modern ones.

Collectors might not want to watch what's next... :D

A fellow contacted me who wanted to turn an XAVT into a user.  It's getting a thin down treatment going from a 15 layer to a 9 layer.

Were the electrician and harvester blades on a backspring that is unique to the XAVT or is it a spring used by other tools too?

It was an opener layer spring from the old style SAKs that didnt have the keyring on there.

Interesting. I thought that using the old opener spring was just something you figured out. Didn't expect for that to be the factory approach.

I dont know if this has been asked before but what can the mag glass on the explorer be replaced with? Will the two openers fit opposite the phillips on a frame? Is there another tool the will fill that gap? Thanks for helping my lack of knowledge.

On a 91mm, the openers will not fit opposite the philips. On a 93mm, it is possible. I think the only other tool that fits across from the mag glass is the LED light. Not sure the LED will fit across from the philips though.

No worries. I asked Syph about it at one point as I really like that opener/philips setup on the 93mm frame and was hoping to DIY it onto a 91mm mod.

Ya I gave it the old college try, but it jsut doesnt work.  The springs are so weird on 91s, they dont accomodate different tools well.  Oh well.

To spice things up I have a new tool layer coming out for 91/93 size that is a drop in replacement for the saw (uses saw backspring).  Its being waterjet right now....  any guesses?  Its one tool but I did up 3 versions of it since I couldnt decide what I liked best.  Its been on my list of requested tools for some time now.

Nope not a blade, but that is on the list.  Its something people have asked for alot and there is no version of it currently on 91mm SAKs.
