The phillips is thicker than the can opener, so you'll need a different spring - the blade spring works with a spacer/washer next to the cap lifter.  Peening alox is fine if it's silver, a bit more nerve wracking on coloured scales.

Yea, I heard about the blade spring.  I thought there was some slight modification on the cap lifter end required too. And its a .002 washer, right?  Maybe get some phosphor bronze shim material to make a few washers with.  I would want to do this on a several colors of Pioneer so maybe I should practice up on my peening first!

I'm trying to remember what I used in the past.  0.4mm brass sheet, I think.

opener and phillips takes 0.105" of width on a single backspring.  There is a 0.020" washer with the cap lifter to fill out the width.

Ah, found the relevant information: .02".  The only problem is the phosphor bronze I've seen is sold in MUCH larger quantities.  I guess I'd have enough to make a few thousand washers!  :D

Edit: Apparently USA Knife Maker has phosphor bronze washers in various thicknesses.  While they don't have any in .02", they have pairs in .01" along with other thicknesses.  Cheaper than ordering a whole sheet and making my own.  Now all the parts are on their way.  Ack!!  My work simply won't be able to compare to any of the amazing stuff I see on here.

As an outside observer I think you've earned the title! Unless Timbukto has an equivalent to MTO and there is some dude on there dishing out hundreds of sweet mods that we don't even know about.  Maybe he's even made a custom backspring to put 91mm scissors on a 84mm   :P

 Very cool mate!

Wow, that is a cool article!  From all of the amazing things I've seen you produce, I think it's pretty accurate.  Your volume of work and quality are so prevalent that you're used as a reference point for how to do things as well as quality.  There are quite a number of talented modders out there, but if wondering if something can be done or has been done, the answer is always the same: Syph did it.

Gee, now I feel like I'm hobnobbing with famous people!

So now lets talk Ti mag glass... how to hold the bloody lens in...

So.. tried a friction fit.. fail it will fall out.

Tried epoxy, not a great look and some got on glass.. and not easily replaceable lens... fail.

Tried to paint on crazy glue around lens then fit in... still got white crusty stuff on glass.. fail.

About to give up when I thought.. why not just tap a hole through the bottom of the frame?

That was the smallest head screw I had, but a set screw would work even better (got some on order).

So first thoughts.. will it crack the lens.  Nope, tightened as hard as I could and nothing. ( I could also put a dot of rubber or glue on the end so metal screw to glass contact is eliminated).

Next thought was retention.  I could not dislodge the the lens with finger pressure, yet a turn of the screw released it just fine.  :D

So... Ive got an easily replaceable lens system now with no downside that I can see.  YES!!!

Im not 100% happy with the Ti material as a choice though so I think the future will see some brass or Al options.  Ti and metal rubbing will never be as smooth as stock tools, but at least Ive solved the major issues here, and proved the design and CAD file I made works.

Here is the finished SAK with the mag glass.

OK - That's three more adjectives (persistent, resilient, determined) - I have to add to my list of adjectives (technically brilliant, inspired, creative, imaginative, original, oozing quality) that I use to describe you and your work  :D

PS. Does the holder have a wee ledge all the way round for the glass to rest against - So it cannot come out in one direction - then the screw holds it in and against the ledge?

One word, brass!

Ya I was just ordering a piece the right thickness... Id like a Ti explorer, brass mag glass holder, brass liners, brass cross, brass tweezer.... yup... that would be good.... or the same as a yeoman config.
