Here is what Im currently trying.  A slot milled into the back scale near center to fit it.  But how to hold it in is the problem.  It sits just about flush.  Im thinking a small bit of a super thin Ti to act as a retaining spring.  Im just trying to think of the easiest way to produce it and not over complicate it.  And I dont want it sticking up to high or it would be annoying when you hold the SAK for normal use.
Could you look to Mora Light my Fire for some inspiration?

Twist'n lock.

Use it on a tool layer, scale tool or whatever your mad lab conjures.

Chugging right along today, I finished up a compact tinker.  Mostly the standard finish except nickel silver on the tweezer instead of brass.

Those titanium liners must make the SAK a little lighter than brass - love the look of the brass though.  Always a fan of the in-line Phillips.  Pretty.

What about making the slot for the tweezers longer and putting the firesteel in first and have it held in by the tweezers?

That Might work, but Id only be able to fit the 3/32 size in that way.  After trying both these small sizes I think the 1/8 inch size is realistically the smallest Id want to bother with fitting.  Ive got a solution I tested that works, it locked it into the scale, but I need to have new ones cut now to have it nicer looking.

How thick are your Ti scales and the diameter of the rod (the ferrocerium that is).

On another note, if instead of Ti you made it all with Al but with space for T&T and pen, what would be the difference between Ti and Al?

Best to take your time and get it right from the start.

10 years from now you will not even care how long it took but be glad you had a good running machine.

Got the enclosure finished today and the electronics done for the pump control.  It's actually starting to look like it's supposed to now!

Tomorrow I can connect the path pilot controller and test all the limit switches... then cut something!

Oh for sure.  One of the things Ive been excited to offer is engraving.  I was playing with that today, just cutting air as I dont have my vice mounted yet.  But my first test is going to be doing an MTO engraved Ti scale.  :D

I'll be able to do some test engraving tomorrow.  Just waiting for the final round of silicone to dry and I should be ok to get the flood coolant running.

Found more holes to plug and then I can leak test.  I ordered some higher end flood coolant as well that wont promote rust, so I've gotta wait for that to arrive but it shouldn't take long as its shipped local.  The 'good stuff' only costs 10 bucks a liter, but only comes in 20 L pails.  Its mixed at a 20 to 1 ratio so I'll have 400 L of collant.  That should last me many many years.  :D

I did a slightly different one today.  Putting the awl on the back of the saw layer would seem easy, but the awl is actually 0.010" thicker than than the saw layer.  I milled a recess into the front scale to give it the extra space and that worked out just fine.

And for anyone interested in the CNC mill update here is my latest ramblings...

Its pretty much ready to run once I have coolant but I know the front will leak so I want to put some rubber flap around the door edges.

I wrote the g code to make my first official part.  Nothing too exciting just 91mm brass liners, but I do need some so it is necessary.
